Another Surgery For Poor Corey Seager

Corey Seager

The Dodgers are idle on Monday as they prepare for a two-game series in Oakland against the A’s. Injured Dodger shortstop Corey Seager however will be preparing for another surgery, scheduled to be carried out on Tuesday. This surgery will be on his ailing hip. The arthroscopic operation is expected to be performed by Dr. Bryan Kelly in New York according to an announcement from the Dodgers.

Seager recently had Tommy John surgery back in May and is still recovering from that surgery. Seager also was suffering from hip flexor problems before he succumbed to Tommy John earlier in the season. It’s unknown if this surgery is due to the hip flexor issues, or if this is due to a different injury. Poor Seager is far too young to be having this many surgeries. Such a shame for such a talented young player.

Seager appeared in just 26 games in 2018 for the Dodgers as he slashed .267/.348/.396 with 2 home runs, 13 runs batted in and a .744 OPS in 115 plate appearances. Last season Seager appeared in 145 games and slashed .295/.375/.479 with 22 home runs in 613 plate appearances. Chris Taylor had been getting the majority of the reps at shortstop before the Dodgers acquired Manny Machado from the Orioles in July. Machado has taken over most of the playing time at the position since.

The Dodgers have stated that this new hip surgery will not affect Seager’s Tommy John recovery timeline. Seager is still expected to resume baseball activities sometime in January. Seager is just 24-years old. It remains to be seen if Seager’s health would influence the Dodger’s decision to bring back Machado for the 2019 season. Machado will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. Here’s hoping Corey makes a quick recovery and returns to the diamond healthy for the 2019 season.

  1. From a Vanderbilt School of Medicine Report:

Athletes who have arthroscopic hip surgery.

“In general, for properly selected cases, hip arthroscopy has a high rate of improvement, but does not always assure returning to the rigors of athletic activities. Among a heterogenous group of athletes, 93% were improved, but only 76% returned to their sport symptom-free and unrestricted or at an increased level of performance. Eighteen percent either chose to not return or were unable to return to their primary sport. Among a group of elite athletes, 96% were improved, but only 85% were able to successfully return to their sport.”

  2. When asked if he would be ready for Spring Training Corey Seager replied:

“mmmyss mmmbntttsssmmmtch” which was translated to mean maybe yes maybe not so much.

  3. Still having issues getting things posted here. I think I need a new email. Having to fill it in each time I often make a mistake because it’s too long and there is no edit capability on that mistake. It just disappears. Pain in the ass.

    What about this guy:

“Stetson Allie. Converted to a reliever due to his blazing upper-90s/triple-digit heater. This year saw him beginning at High-A Rancho Cucamonga where he struggled with his WHIP (1.97 in only 19.1 IP), but continued to improve upon his promotion to Tulsa (1.11 WHIP in 12.2 IP, including a decent 2.84 ERA and a solid 8/18 BB/K ratio) before finally getting bumped up to OKC last Wednesday. So far, he’s thrown 2-2/3 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit in his first two appearances, but is still fine-tuning his command (1.88 WHIP). If he manages to get that worked out, Dodgers just might have another viable late-inning bullpen option to look forward to down the road.“

I read an article in The NY Times about baseball players that had hip surgeries, and the results seemed a lot better.

Maybe because these were major leaguers, they got better medical help then you are I, would get.

Of course we don’t know precisely what he is having done with his hip.

But most of the surgeries I read had to do with the labrum that goes around the area of the hip socket.

And with some of these surgeries they have catching in their hip sockets because there is rough bone that cause friction.

Chase Utley had a hip surgery like this, the year after the Phillies won their championship, and he is Corey’s mentor, so that should help.

Corey is exactly the same age I was, when I had my car accident and damaged my pelvis and hip, so he has youth going for him.

I lived mostly a normal life after my accident, and Corey’s surgery is going to be a heck of a lot cleaner, so I think he has a good chance.

I am still amazed that Bo Jackson had a hip replacement, and played Major League Baseball.

    That is really something!

I know, but I tend to be a positive person with things like this, if a player or person, is that young.

But I must admit, I was just happy to know, they do hip surgeries like this, and in one day, and the patient goes home.

It is totally different then when a surgeon has to slice a patient open, that much.

But I think we take Corey’s bat for granted, because he is the steadiest bat in this line up, along with Turner, when he is right.

I think if Corey was healthy in the post season, his bat could have made that difference, with that World Series, because he is so consistent.

Going to a new email does not help. There is no box to check to be able to repeat. I went to Word Press and there is a way to correct but I don’t understand well enough to tell how to do it. I think it is a virus of some kind.

    1. Scott assured me there is no virus. But….

I’ve got a shorter email address that I can use. Might be easier. Sure is a nuisance.

      1. Has nothing to do with your email address. And it is not a virus. It is probably a change WordPress has instituted in their software, deliberately or by accident. Remaining signed in has suddenly become a security item and it’s possible their lawyers advised them to change it before someone gets hacked and they get sued. You should create an email address at one of the free websites (like mail.com) strictly for use on blogs, never for personal or financial business, just in case the blog does get hacked.

        1. I have contacted WordPress about this… We should know pretty soon whether or not this thing is changed back to the way it was or why not, at least…

          1. Per your suggestion, I did just that Jonah. New address much shorter, easier to type in. Scott hasn’t recognized it yet.

          2. Your sign in doesn’t go through Scott, it goes to WordPress for recognition. Put your cursor (or whatever you cell phone users have) over your avatar and click on the “View Complete Profile” button and change your email address to the new one.

There is an article in the LA Times that you would like.

You will know by just looking at the headline, of that article.

Houston Mitchell is the writer, and he is the best writer the Times have, when it comes to the Dodgers.

I don’t think these next 6 games are going to be that easy, because after we play the A’s, we have four games against the Rockies at Coors.

What are the odds Badger, on this next series with the A’s?

  6. Did everyone see how the Astros beat the Giants last night?

I just saw it, and I loved it, because I still hate the Giants more then any team, and their obnoxious fans, that are always yelling Beat LA, and that loss had to be a killer!

    1. I didn’t see it.

      But I saw this:

A woman ran a red traffic light and crashed into a man’s car Both of their cars are demolished but amazingly neither of them was hurt.
After they crawled out of their cars, the woman said; “Wow, just look at our cars! There’s nothing left, but fortunately we are unhurt. This must be a sign from God that we should meet and be friends and live together in peace for the rest of our days.”

The man replied,” I agree with you completely. This must be a sign from God!”

The woman continued, “And look at this, here’s another miracle. My car is completely demolished, but my bottle of 75 year old scotch didn’t break. Surely God meant for us to drink this vintage delicacy and celebrate our good fortune.” Then she handed the bottle to the man.

The man nods his head in agreement, opened it, drank half the bottle and then handed it back to the woman The woman took the bottle, immediately put the cap back on, and handed it back to the man.

The man asks, “Aren’t you having any?”

She replies, “Nah. I think I’ll just wait for the police.”

Some years ago Adam ate the apple.

      Men will never learn!

      1. Badger

That reminds me of a friend that knew someone got a DUI, at a four way stop.

And of course, the one that got the DUI, was stopped at the stop sign, and a car hit that from behind.

The same player on the Astros that hit that game tying HR against Kenley, in game two, hit a game winning HR in top of the ninth with two outs, against the Giants, last night.

And that made the game 3 Astros, and 1 Giants.

  7. When asked how he was feeling Corey responded:

Nnnnphhttttooo tttmmmbbgggd … which was translated “notta too bad”.

    1. Badger

I think this picture, and your translation, was funnier, then your other joke!

Not that your other joke, wasn’t funny!

But Jonah when I first looked at this picture, I thought you had posted that, because your always good for a funny picture, and some funny words!

I can relate to the guy’s leg that is in traction, although my leg wasn’t in the air, because it was my pelvis that was crushed, so my leg was on the bed, not in the air.

I had a 25 or 30 pound weight, keeping my hip socket, in place.

Like everyone always says, at least Corey is still young?

          1. Jonah

I definitely have a good sense of humor, although I have a dry sense of humor.

No one in my family could survive, without a good sense of humor, that was love, in my family.

And that is how I was taught to get by, in hard situations.

        1. Badger

But you finally got it right, and that is what really counts.

Because no one I know, have had as many adventures that you have had, with women.

And without those many adventures, you would have never finally got the right woman, and that you did!

  8. Roberts is nuts. He has Kike in the 4 hole again and Machado still hitting 2nd! Is he really that stupid?

    1. Yeah, well Roberts is a flaming moron….Kike is hitting below the Mendoza line in the 4 hole!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What an effen IDIOT!!!!

      1. Hey Bear
You know the sad thing about Dummy is he thinks Kike is the Dodger most valuable player. You know he has got more than one screw loose.

        1. What an Idiot…and Kike proved me right….groundout for a ribbie, but no hits… He is hitting .150 in the 4 hole!

        1. MJ
Thanks for the support. I hope you keep giving us your take on Dodger progress as we go forward. You always think before your write. Good Job!

  9. For some of our younger fans who don’t know their baseball history…
Before they were the Oakland As, they were the Kansas City As, owned by a maverick named Charles Finley, and managed by one of the grand old men of baseball, Connie Mack. And before Kansas City, they were the Philadelphia As and played at old Shibe Park, which was renamed Connie Mack Stadium in honor of Mr. Mack who had managed the team for 50 years! Doesn’t that boggle the mind????

    1. Jonah

Did you know MC Hammer use to be the Vice President executive under Charles Finley, when he was a kid?

Finley fired almost the entire top of his baseball office, but he kept MC Hammer as a kid, to be his Vice President executive, or some title like that.

I guess MC threw out the first pitch tonight.

I can’t remember what his name was, as a kid, but Mike Davis that use to be on the Dodgers helped finance the beginning, of his music career.

    2. The first MLB game I ever went to was in Kansas City. The A’s vs the Yankees, 1957. It was at Municipal Stadium. Yankees won 14-7. Mantle hit 2 home runs, Gil McDougal hit 2 also, I think. There were 7 home runs hit, I believe. I was 9. I don’t recall much about being 9, but I remember that night.

  10. Corey has a torn labrum in his hip, and that is about 6 months of recovery time.

Corey isn’t going to get much time in the off season to work on his baseball stuff, but maybe more, then I think.
