The Banana Kid Might be on to Something with Those Tight Pants

Maybe you noticed Enrique Hernandez, the Banana Kid, making a fashion statement with the home whites at Dodger Stadium.

Kike rocked the tight pants last night, and he ripped a solo home run against the Reds in last night’s game. Will the home run pants be back tonight? Or were they a one and done?

Kike is well-known for his unique antics, such as the Rally Banana. Will the new (but not new) fashion catch on with any of the other Dodgers? The last time the team won a World Series, they wore that tight pants fashion.  Get a gander of present-day Dodgers broadcaster Orel Hershiser

Check out Gibby…

Not a lot of room to breathe. Here’s a team shot. A whole lotta Kike going on there…

The Dodgers won a World Series in stretch pants. Although they’ve come close the last few years, that was the last time they stood atop the mountain. Maybe yoga pants are the missing ingredient.

I was born in the shadow of Dodger Stadium and immediately drenched in Dodger Blue. Chavez Ravine is my baseball cathedral, Vin Scully was the golden voice of summer all my life, and Tommy Lasorda remains the greatest Dodgers manager ever. My favorite things are coffee, beer, and the Dodgers beating the Giants. I also blog about my baseball card hobby at All Trade Bait, All the Time.

  1. I actually despise what has happened with MLB uniforms. The baggy pants, pajama length pant legs are just hideous. Let’s get these blades back in a true baseball uni, that means pants that stop just below the knee and nice stirrups with the white socks underneath (and visible). To even call this costume parade a uniform is dumb, you see, uniform means that everyone is UNIFORM, currently we have each player making their own decision on the costume they will wear each game. Check out Taylor, that boy understands the baseball look and he happens to play like a player that understands playing the game hard and dressing like he is ready to play hard, most of these other jokers look like they are heading over to a sleep-over.

    1. Fun to look back at the way they used to dress. Of course the White Sox had those ridiculous uni’s with shorts and collars. The Astros rainbow colored jerseys were quite the sight. I remember when Charlie O changed the A’s uni’s to the green and yellow. Before that they had blue and red trim. And the Phillies going from the Red and White to that more burgundy red for a while. Glad the Dodgers have always kept the home uni’s traditional like the Yanks and their pinstripes. Only changes in the Dodger uni’s have been with the road greys.

      1. I remember the wool uni’s in summer that were hotter than hell. In that uniform I caught both ends of an American Legion double header in Fullerton on a 95 degree day back in the early 60’s. It was at the old Amerige Park. I was told by my coach that Joe DiMaggio, Walter Johnson and Satchel Paige played on the same field. I remember thinking he was b.s.’n me, but he wasn’t. Anyway, my uniform was soaked by the third inning of the first game. What a day. I loved it.

    1. Badger

Was it a fastball that Kike hit out?

Because in his earlier at bats, the pitcher didn’t throw him even one fastball, and he didn’t look good, in those at bats.

With Kike all they need to do, is not throw him a fastball.

And with Puig, only throw him fastballs.

    2. “Playoff magic is not contained in the pants.”

      that’s not what she said

Oops, Bluto is going to shit his pants

  2. AT OKC tonight Urias 5.2 innings, 94 pitches, 8 strikeouts, 1 walk, 5 hits, 2 earned runs for his 3rd win. Pederson 1-2 with a 2 run homer. Willie Calhoun 1-4 with a HR and 2 RBI’s. Dickson had a 2-4 night and Thompson was 1-4. Mike Freeman was 2-4. Tulsa won 3-2 with Sierra getting his 5th win in relief and Copping his 4th save. Rios was 2-4. Rancho Cucamonga leading 5-1 in the 7th. Robinson, Diaz, and Raley all have 2 hits.

  3. 2 things about this bottom of the 5th here:

    1) Puig’s double was the hardest hit ball I’ve seen in a long time! Man if that was in the air it may have left the stadium
    2) Utley swung perfectly in that situation: he knew he had to get a fly ball for the run, and that’s what he did. What a smart vet!

Oh, and also, Wood looks great

    1. Got that right. Judge hit a homer in the Yankee game that had the highest stat cast exit velocity ever. 121 MPH, that ball was HAMMMERED. Wood looks like he has not missed a beat.

  4. Way to go Yasiel and MR. Utley. Story in Dodger Nation says they are targeting Archer at the deadline.

    1. Response:
      1) I need to go see Judge’s HR! I went to Fresno State, so obviously I root for Judge (and all Bulldogs that make it)
      2) Would you prefer Archer, or Yu Darvish?

      1. Bobby

I would take Archer because he is younger, and Darvish didn’t impress me, when he pitched in the post season.

But Darvish would be cheaper because he is a rental, I believe.

But if Wood would hold up, Darvish might be ok because he would cost less, and we need a good right hand bat, with power.

Because Turner can’t do it all, and I don’t know how Taylor is going to hit against good pitching.

        1. Archer is signed through ’20 at a very reasonable rate. He only makes $6.4mm this year. When you say cheaper do you mean fewer prospects? That could be true, but if Darvish continues this year at his current rate, (2.4 WAR already) the bidding could be very high. With FAZ’s record on deadline deals, neither one of these guys will likely get here.

          1. I would have to agree there. It would probably take at least 1 top tier guy and a package to get Archer. Archer being a Ray means Friedman would love to have him here. Been a long time since they last traded with Texas. Rays and A’s have been their main targets. Sonny Gray anyone? Montas sent to AAA.

  5. Darvish 5-4 3.18 ERA 82 innings, 89 K’s 32 BB, .205 BA against and a 1.13 WHIP
    Archer 4-4 3.65 ERA 86.1 innings 106 K’s 27 BB .224 BA against and a 1.15 WHIP.
Pretty close. I take the younger guy under team control Archer.
