Cy Young um German Marquez beats Dodgers

Kenta Maeda

The Dodgers bats went silent for the 2nd night in a row against the Rockies Cy Young pitchers. This time German Marquez faced Kenta Maeda. Marquez would go on to dominate the Dodgers and the Dodgers fall below .500 at home. The action for this game didn’t start until the 4th inning when the first hit was collected. D.J Lamahieu doubled to start the inning.  Charlie Blackmon flied out and advanced the runner. DJ would score on a wild pitch and the score was 1-0 Rockies.

In the top of the 5th, Ian Desmond hit a solo shot and the Rockies led 2-0. In the bottom of the 6th inning, the Dodgers got their first hit as Kiki Hernandez hit a solo shot and the score was 2-1 Rockies. Chase Utley hit a single in the inning getting his first hit in forever. In the top of the 7th, Trevor Story hit a double. Chris Iannetta then singled him in and the score was 3-1 Rockies.

German Marquez continued pitching in the 7th inning and shut the Dodgers down. He also pitched in the 8th inning and shut the Dodgers down. Lack of offense with Seager out means the Dodgers need to get Manny Machado if they want to win the title. The offense the way it is isn’t going to win it.

Maeda went 7 innings. Adam Ottavino came in for the bottom of the 9th and shut the Dodgers down for the win. Dodgers play tomorrow afternoon.

  1. I got here to my sisters house about the 5th inning, but the offense looked about the same as Friday’s LAME! You cannot waste the kind of efforts put in by Hill and Maeda. Kemp continues to slump and yesterday all he did was strikeout, but Matt is a pro. He will figure it out and no one expected him to hit .330 the entire. year. Machado sweepstakes heating up. And lets keep the politics off of here. This is a baseball thread.

  2. “You cannot waste the kind of efforts put in by Hill and Maeda”

Sure you can. That’s the nature of all or nothing.

Machado to LA. I give it a 33% chance.

“And let’s keep the politics out of here”.

Good idea. Obviously civility is no longer possible. #Sad.

    1. Don’t look now, the Giants are tied with the Dodgers and have 1 more win than they do. Cleveland has jumped into the Machado talk, looks like the Phils are tracking Moustakas, and Texas is really trying to find a taker for Hamels…..George staying with the Thunder and not joining the Lakers.

      1. I don’t know. Ask Michael.

Maybe a degree from a leading academic institution means nothing. We got skools o’plenty in this country and I just read we are tied for 9th in the world in collective IQ. We are a nation of Dummies. We don’t even make the playoffs in the Smarty Pants Games. Why should I expect my billion dollar baseball team to look like it is run by genius? Roberts UCLA? Meh, rated 21st academically. Farhan M.I.T.? So what. Andrew Friedman Tulane? B.F.D. Their motto is “Not for oneself, but for one’s own”. What the hell does that even mean?

It’s All or Nothing boys and girls. So what the odds favor nothing. Put your money on the table and roll those bones.

This is what Roberts said about this game.

It is hard to live for the HR, when you are facing good pitching, and the hitters can’t pick up walks, and can’t manufacture, and keep the line up, going.

  3. Our guys have to have better at bats in these tough games, because the team that does, usually will win these close games.

But in these the last two games, it is very apparent that only one way of scoring is not going to work, against good pitching, or if a pitcher is having a really good day.

I am not a Grandal hater, and I know he made a really good play on that safety bunt, but he misses way to many pitches that he shouldn’t miss.

Either because he can’t see the pitch, or he is forgetting which pitch is coming.

Yesterday that ball he allowed to get by him, not only allowed the Rockies to score a run, it made Maeda throw a lot more pitches after he pitched very well, and had just made a very tough strike out.

And even though it was not Maeda’s fault that we lost that game, he probably would have had more in the tank if he didn’t have to throw those extra pitches, after getting that clutch strike out.

And I bet the official scorer didn’t change that call, from a wild pitch to a pass ball, after Grandal allowed that ball to get through.

That charged Maeda with an earn run he sure didn’t deserve to get, after Maeda had just pitched his butt off.

And former Dodger Eric Karros, vehemently said that was no wild pitch, that was a pass ball.

Toles had another good couple games in the AAA doubleheader yesterday.

After Andrew Toles came back from a day off yesterday, he continued on his hot streak.

He is now 10 for his last 18 at bats, and he also hit a two run HR yesterday, that was included in those ten hits.

He is now hitting 348, and although it looked like the AAA team, was going to sweep that doubleheader yesterday, they ended up with only getting a split.

    1. Grandal passed ball leads to an unearned run. Guess what? Doesn’t count against him cuz he can frame. And in case there is anyone left who doesn’t understand what All or Nothing looks like…. see Grandal. April/March – .314/.402/.551. Last 28 days – .155/.197/.293/.

Toles is hitting .348? A lot of good it does him. Even with Taylor and Hernandez playing the infield, there are several outfielders ahead of him on the depth charts, including a starting first baseman and…. Taylor and Hernandez.

      1. Prospects can be traded. That may be Toles’ only solace.

I really like the kid. But I know nothing.

      2. Badger

He wasn’t given a pass ball, the official scorer, scored it, as a wild pitch.

If our hitters keep on just trying to hit balls out every at bat, they won’t have much of an average or an OPS, after a while, and then there is Forsythe.

And we only have one outfielder on this team, that can hit lefties, and Kemp is slumping right now, and he is that one outfielder, that does hit lefties.

And there are always injuries too, and actually, Toles is 12 for 22.

        1. I saw the play live and I’ve watched the video – that was a passed ball. The scorer got it wrong.

    2. “It’s kind of the construction of our club,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. “You look at a lot of the guys we have, it’s tough to live by the long ball. When you run into good pitching and can’t or don’t take a walk and can’t find a way to hit the outfield grass and keep the line moving, it’s tough. You’re not going to be able to slug all the time. I think, over the last month, we’ve done a very good job of slugging, but I still think that the focus is still trying to have a good at-bat.”

      1. Bluto

Thanks I couldn’t remember verbatim what Roberts said.

But he did use the word manufacture, in the LA Times at least.
