Who is the Dodgers’ Ace – Clayton Kershaw or Hyun-Jin Ryu?

Clayton Kershaw has been the Dodgers’ Ace for almost a decade. Hyun-Jin Ryu is a monster on the mound and at 31 scoreless innings. Is it time to proclaim a new Ace in LA?

I was born in the shadow of Dodger Stadium and immediately drenched in Dodger Blue. Chavez Ravine is my baseball cathedral, Vin Scully was the golden voice of summer all my life, and Tommy Lasorda remains the greatest Dodgers manager ever. My favorite things are coffee, beer, and the Dodgers beating the Giants. I also blog about my baseball card hobby at All Trade Bait, All the Time.

  1. Ryu “IS” the Dodger Ace, hands down. He is on a mission to make the All-Stars and earn a huge new contract.

After last night’s win, he is now 7-1, 1.65 ERA. It was not a stellar start that we have been accustomed to seeing, but he battled out of jams, also with huge game saving assists by the defense. Sometimes the defense plays better, when they are led by a pitcher they have confidence in. At the end of his night, he only surrendered 2 runs in six innings, both runs in a disastrous 2nd inning, ignited by a throwing error by Martin.

The offense continued to roll, and pounded out 7 runs, even with 8 RISP, and 9 LOB. Urias and Alexander ice the win for Ryu.

Still, Kershaw is finally coming around, and is rebounding to become a reliable #2 or #3 starter.
