Dodgers Don’t Sweep Giants, Disappoint Dads Everywhere

The Dodgers disappointed Dads everywhere as they dropped the series finale to the Giants 4-1 on Sunday afternoon at Dodger Stadium on Father’s Day. They may have screwed up the sweep but they still took two out of three from the orange colored foes, and that’s pretty good. The Giants finally were able to score more than two runs in a game at Dodger Stadium. The pumpkin colored enemies had played eleven consecutive games at Dodger Stadium in which they scored less than three runs.

The Giants have been more of a contact driven club, but they recently got Brandon Belt back from an appendectomy. Brandon Crawford has had a great season, but Hunter Pence is now a shell of his former self. Today it was Belt and unheralded Nick Hundley that led the San Francisco offensive assault.

Rookie Caleb Ferguson tossed five innings allowing four runs (three earned) on only two hits. He struck out six and walked one. Ferguson limited the Giants to just two hits, but unfortunately two of them were home runs. The Giants scored two in the first and two more in the third. Brandon Belt, and Nick Hundley each hit two-run home runs.

The Dodger bats were completely stifled by Giant’s starter Chris Stratton. The Dodgers were only able to muster one unearned run on just four hits. All four were singles. The lone run scored was in the bottom of the first on a throwing error from Hundley.

Stratton picked up his eighth win of the season. The San Francisco hurler went six innings allowing one unearned run on three hits and striking out three. He walked one and made 96 pitches before leaving for the Giant’s bullpen. San Francisco used four relievers over the final three innings of the game. Those three pitchers allowed one hit, struck out three and didn’t walk anyone. The Dodgers did not have one extra-base hit and drew only one walk.

The loss snapped the Dodger’s five game winning streak. It was an all around forgettable game. The Dodgers fall to 37-33 but stay 1.5 games back because Arizona lost to the Mets. The Dodgers will fly to Chicago to begin a three game series on Monday. Kenta Maeda will counter Tyler Chatwood with the first pitch scheduled for 5:05 PM PST.

  1. Pretty boring game to watch. Dodger hitters flailed away all day. Ferguson made 2 bad pitches and it cost the team the game. But he hung in there and showed some poise that was not there in his first game. He might not be ready right now, but the kid is going to get better.

  2. Bryce Harper will probably not get the 400 million everyone was saying he was going to get unless he turns this season around drastically. Guys hitting .217 do not make that kind of money even if they do have a lot of homers.

  3. Kohler had a setback and now not expected back until August. It’s a shoulder injury – I think he’ll be out longer.

Put a fork in him he is done, unless possibly we make the post season, and he can get healthy, by that time.
