The Dodgers Just Grinded My Gears

Did you hear the news today? Oh, boy.

And I mean…OH, BOY!!!!!

It was reported the Dodgers have been shopping the naming rights to their field. Watch the video and get my take on this blasphemy.

And..a beer review from Devil’s Canyon Brewing, California Sunshine Rye IPA.

I was born in the shadow of Dodger Stadium and immediately drenched in Dodger Blue. Chavez Ravine is my baseball cathedral, Vin Scully was the golden voice of summer all my life, and Tommy Lasorda remains the greatest Dodgers manager ever. My favorite things are coffee, beer, and the Dodgers beating the Giants. I also blog about my baseball card hobby at All Trade Bait, All the Time.

  1. Yeah we heard and that name would be a joke. No way any true Dodger fan is going for Taco Bell Field, are you frippen kidding me? It is, was and always will be Dodger Stadium. I do not even refer to it as Chavez Ravine and I get offended when the Rockies announcers continually refer to it as such when no Angelino worth his salt, calls it that either. Taco Bell Field my butt, let the Rams names their new stadium that since their ownership is full of Chalupa’s anyway.

  2. Uh, the 1927 Yankees????? I think you went a little over board there Oscar. Ruth, Gehrig, Muesel, Combs, Lazzeri, Murderers Row? Please, I think these guys are great, but not that great. Those guys scored runs by the truck load. The bludgeoned you to death. 4 guys with over 100 RBI’s, Ruth and Gehrig over 150 apiece, Gehrig and Ruth with a combined 107 HR’s between them. 5 guys hitting over .300 with Gehrig leading the way at .373. Yeah, Turner is hitting close to that, but with not nearly the power and production of Gehrig, Ruth hit .356. Closest we have to Turner is 3 guys hitting in the .290’s. Love the enthusiasm there brother, but 27 Yankees would crush this team. They also had 6 pitchers with double digit wins. Led by Hoyt’s 22 and Shockers 18.

    1. And how many games did they do it in?

It’s only $12 million to put your name on the Stadium?

Guggenormous Investments, Mark Walter in particular, should be ashamed to even consider doing this.

Rams ownership is full of what?

      1. 154 and then they swept the Pirates in the series. I did notice one thing about the 27 Yanks though, their fielding was not all that great.

    1. Bluto

Did you hear what one of your favorite writers said about the name, of the White Sox’s stadium?

I think he called it an anti septic name.

Just something to talk about, since the team was idle yesterday.

  3. Taco Bell field. Not happening.

if the bid is $12 million I think a good kickstarter program from Pantone 294 can get that and name the park the Vin Scully Marching and Chowders Society Park. $1 from 12 million fans. Easy. I’d even put in $5 to keep it from being named Taco Bell.

    1. I thought I cared but Bluto may be right. It’s just the next step in detachment. At first I thought people might not buy a ticket to the Taco Bell Bowl. But the lemmings will continue to go. They will pay the $234,10 FCI to watch Rich Hill pitch 5 innings. In fact, they’ll pay more.

$12 million really seems like a sellout. That is less than they pay Kazmir.

      1. Yes. Detach from the nonsense.

Go to the game if you want to. You don’t have to.

Enjoy the team. Hope for success

  4. Taco Bell (or ANY name) Field? Uh, No!

I could (barely) live with, “Dodger Stadium brought to you by Taco Bell” but to anyone who remotely know the culture surrounding the team it will ALWAYS be Dodger Stadium no matter what the owners sell/say/want!

    1. I wasn’t getting the Naugles reference. I remember that place in high school. I remember the commercials with that guy from Star Trek. Other than that, I’m not getting the connection.

I like YF’s Kickstarter idea. Even if 12 mil isn’t raised, it sends a message. Theres’ a sense of permanence…of history that surrounds this team and its ballpark.

AT&T Park is somewhat innocuous in a generically corporate kind of way, but Taco Bell Stadium is nauseatingly tacky sounding.

      1. Dodger patch

I don’t know if there were many Naugles in LA and Orange County, but the guy that started Naugles, was a partner with Del Taco.

And Naugles was almost the exact same fast food place, as Del Taco.

  5. http://m.dodgers.mlb.com/news/article/242813080/dodgers-calhoun-looks-to-extend-hitting-streak/

He’d be a good fit in Detroit. Tampa. Oakland. Baltimore. Maybe even Pittsburgh.

“It’s still going to be Dodger Stadium”. Yeah. Sure. Maybe. Sounds to me like you’re ok with it. Is this another Moneyball thing that old schoolers are just to rooted in the past to have a freakin clue? Is it a FAZ move, to be supported strictly by ideology identification?

    1. Yes…corporate marketing sabre research indicates consumers, especially that young demographic, have a more positive image of their local sports teams when associated with popular zesty snack foods.

Attendance is calculated to increase 4%, especially with promotional tie ins .

Do it! They should build a giant chalupa in center field.

      1. Well I don’t have to research it to know that shat ain’t true. Fake news. I know you weren’t really going for accuracy on that one though. It was funny.

Average age of MLB tv viewing audience is 55. Next year it will be 56 and then 57 the year after that. As FCI increases, the average age of ticket buyers is not likely to decrease. As conceptually appealing as a giant chalupa may be, I don’t think it sells tickets.

    2. Badger

Calhoun is big league ready when it comes to his bat, that is for sure!

He was just behind Cody in AA and look what Cody is doing in the majors.

Cody has really impressed me, with the way he has made his adjustments, through out the season.

He brought his batting average up 10 points, just in that one game, that he hit for the cycle.

Calhoun has a lot of confidence when it comes to hitting, just like Cody does!

And I don’t know if you saw what I wrote, but I do agree with you, that it seems like most of our players, are having a career year.

I was just thinking that, right before I read what you wrote.

      1. Video below stolen from Timmon’s site, so he gets credit. Calhoun has lost weight??? Makes one wonder….

          1. Timmons has a pretty good blog. Your fault he won’t let you on it to harass him. I don’t think reading the blog qualifies as an obsession….

          2. I was just giving you some of the crap patch gives me.

My fault? Why, because I call him on his bullshit and he censors me? That’s a fault?

Yes MJ, I posted a video.

  6. Agon has really become the man without a position on the Dodgers with Bellinger’s arrival. We need to try to work him into any trade. For Rivero/McCutcheon, how about Agon, Verdugo, Calhoun and ??? and maybe some $$$$?

    1. Nobody is trading for Gonzalez. Nobody traded for Crawford. Nobody wanted Ethier.

Romero is going to cost a lot. Great arm, term and cost and doing it at the MLB level. You are paying 110 cents on the dollar for that.

        1. Who’s Romero? I think the trade referenced was with Pittsburgh for McCutchen. That trade was Felipe Rivero. I’d do it. Pirates might not. Cutch might be s great fit here. He’s only 30.

          1. Badger

I don’t know much about Romero, but I assumed he must be a good arm for the pen, since that is what we need.

It sure didn’t seem like the Nats, had to give up to much, for the two arms they got.

          2. There’s no way the Pirates give up Rivero. He’s a stud, young and controllable.

            I can dream, though.

    1. Badger

I guess I don’t know who either Romero or Rivero is, but it looks like Rivero is a good arm in the Pirates pen.

Maybe Bluto can tell us who Romero is.

  7. Felipe Rivero..LHP …..Pittsburgh Pirates. ,……4-2 with a ERA of 0.72 in 46 games. 57 K’s and 12 walks in 49.2 innings with a WHIP of 0.68 and 7 saves in 7 tries. 26 years old.

    1. We know who Rivero is. Jonah’s trade scenario that started all this was Rivero and Cutch for AGon, Verdugo, Calhoun and ??? plus some $$$$. I said I’d do it, Pirates wouldn’t, but give them Joc instead of Verdugo and they might. I have no idea who Romero is.

      1. I’d gladly give Joc and keep Verdugo. Joc is going to gain weight and be moved to a corner where he won’t hit enough to hold a job.

      2. Like I said, I’d love to substitute Joc in that deal. We could put the Wild Horse in center field where he maybe has enough ground to cover that he wouldn’t be poaching the other outfielders too much. His batting average would look better there, too.

        1. Jonah

That is a very astute assessment, of Puig!

Since Puig has slimmed down, he might be a better centerfielder, but he has such a good arm, that is probably why he will stay in right.

But your right, rightfield is an offensive position.

      1. Jonah

That second video was really good, especially that guy on the football field.

And the guy running in the horse race was good too!

I like those fans in Phillie, imitating
        Kimbrel.

I remember the little boys, with the Dodger’s and Giant’s shirts, on.

    1. Thanks Jonah!

I don’t eat to many pancakes.

But that video doesn’t surprise me, but thanks for the thought!

      1. I didn’t see any pancakes. Someone here used to call Joe Blanton Joey Pancakes. Never understood that one either…. Let’s change Calhoun’s name to Willie TreeTrunk….

        1. Jonah

I didn’t understand that name either, maybe it was a discription of his fastball.

Because he use to give up a lot of HRs, when he was a starter.

Maybe his fastball, was just to flat, with not much, movement.
