Dodgers Ready to Pounce on Miller

The Dodgers gave “turncoat” Zack Greinke some labor pains on Labor day as the Dodgers pounded the snakes 10-2. Greinke shed some skin last night as he chased the money to go to Arizona during the off-season. Dodger fill in Kenta Maeda outdueled Greinke. This was a statement win for the Dodgers. The Dodgers fans let Greinke know about it to. The Dodgers are a season high four games up on the Giants. The Dodgers to day will hope that they can also shelf Shelby Miller who was supposed to be a Godsend for the Dbacks.

Game time:  710pm SNLA

Miller (2-10, 6.81 ERA)  Stripling (3-6 , 4.15 ERA)

Dodgers Lineup and Diamondbacks Lineup TBA

So the Dodgers go with their third rookie in a row in Ross Stripling.  Stripling will try to break a personal three-game losing streak. In his past four starts, the 26-year-old rookie allowed 28 hits — including four home runs — in 23 innings and recorded a 5.09 ERA. The thing I like about Stripling is that he pitches fast and keeps the ball  in play.  Stripling had a good start in his last appearance against the Rockies in Coors field. He gave up three runs on nine hits and a walk in six innings.

This is how the Diamondbacks have fared against Stripling.

Since the Dodgers are facing right hander Shelby Miller, you can expect a right handed lineup for the Dodgers. Miller has been a major disappointment for the Diamondbacks this season. He has lost 10 of 12 starts. He has allowed 93 hits, including 13 home runs.  He actually got optioned to triple AAA. The big acquisition actually improved in Triple AAA. He went 5-1 with 55 strikeouts. In first start since being recalled he gave up two runs, six hits, one walk in six innings against the Giants in a loss.

This is how the Dodgers hitters have fared against Miller.

Based on the stats, it looks to be a high scoring game. But you never know since both hurlers had good starts their last time out. The Dodgers will go with Brock Stewart tomorrow against Left hander Robbie Ray. It’s to get this win today because who knows what will happen tomorrow. Lets continue to bury the Giants.

Lets keep this up.

  1. Perfect game gone after 5 pitches. So much for that drama.

Pollock got all of that one.

Horrible route by Tomas, thank you.

    1. Tomas is guy without a position. Zaidi was on 570AM today in LA. He was asked about rocking Greinke. He talked about the players being more focused for a top pitcher and said that he would love to have Greinke on the Dodgers.

  2. John Kruk says Giants have hit rock bottom. He ain’t seen nothing yet …. I think the Giants miss the playoffs altogether.

Here we go … Shelby’s second time through our batting order ….

    1. Me too on Pollock. I’d take Lamb and Segura as well. And Greinke. I’d take Miller. He’s 25 and only makes 4 mil. Honeycutt could fix him. He, more than anyone we have (other than CK) is a 200 inning pitcher.

      1. Miller is an absolute mess. Even his outs are line drives and fly balls to the wall. Not sure I would dump that on Honeycutt. Segura would fit in nicely at 2nd base for the Dodgers.

  3. I’d pass on Shelby Miller for now. We’ve got too many arms and I’d rather see Stewart over him. But if the DBacks are willing to trade him for Alex Wood, I’d be down for that.

I think we are quite ok in our rotation and long relief options for 2017. I worry more about our bullpen options, and why is Baez bring called up again? He is what he is, and I’d like to see more youngsters this time of the year.

  4. Toles just looks like a hitter. I wonder how well he does against left handed pitchers. Agon and Grandal are dialed in. They are hitting everything hard.

  5. Can’t say I get letting Reddick hit against the lefty. The lead isn’t insurmountable especially with Fields coming in. Puig should have hit and stayed in Rf.

  6. I’ve seen Miller on better nights. His stuff is pretty good. But yeah, this year hasn’t been kind to him. Still, an All Star at 24. Not a free agent until ’19. Big strong guy, fastball 65, curve 60. I think he can turn it around.

    Toles does look confident.

gints finally won. What’s with the Mets? Damm. And Peraza avg down to .331. The bum.

    I’m done.

  7. Toles has got it going. And I do like a mix of speed and youth in the team.

Reddick is heating up. 2 hits again tonight.

Baez is killing me. He’s slower than a molasses glacier. I’m getting too old to watch Dodger games like this.

    1. Slow between pitches, but a real barn burner with his arm. Love his heat, but he doesn’t have much beside his fastball.

  8. Toles gap power is what makes him interesting. He’ll have a lot of doubles, and many triples, with his approach.

I hope he plays in winter ball this year. He should definitely get a chance at earning the LF job next season, or at least platooning with Trayce.

Unless Reddick earns World Series MVP honors, i can’t see any reason to bring him back, especially with a healthy Ethier around next season. No reason to lock him up for 3-4 years when Bellinger, Verdugo, Garlick, and a few others are nearly ready to come up too.

  9. Even if Reddick wins WS MVP I’d let another front office take him. I’d much rather roll with a platoon of Toles and Trayce – that’s a great idea Bobby.

    1. Yes the only thing Reddick has that Toles doesn’t have, is experience.

And Ethier isn’t as good as Reddick defensively but I think Ethier, is a better hitter, even at his age.

And yesterday was a good day to rest Howie, because other then the four or five hit game that Howie had, he hadn’t been hitting as much as he had.

  10. Jeff
Baez was working on one of his pitches in AA, when he went down, so I hope that can make a difference for him.

But even if Baez had better command of his fastball, he could still pitch pretty well, with his fastball.
