Your Friend The Dodgers Are Trying To Win Baseball Games

Clayton Kershaw

If the Dodgers play a home stand and never win a game, did it really happen? It’s been almost like a feverish nightmare. The Dodgers have played six games on this seven game home stand and have lost every game. This is their first six game losing streak since May of 2013. It’s gone beyond jokes or snark at this point. It’s now reached the point where it’s just sad and frustrating. The Dodgers are so bad they are almost unwatchable.

After the club lost again last night 5-2 to the Padres, they are now under .500. At 12-13. The last time the Dodgers were under .500 was back on April 11th of 2015 when they were 2-3. The problem the Dodgers are having is that they realize that they have to score runs in order to win baseball games. Huge problem since you know, they can’t. The Dodgers have now reached a level of suck that neither you nor I could possibly understand. That level of suck could very well spiral out of control into the nether regions of say 2005, or 2011, or even early 2013. As long as this season doesn’t turn into a 1992 then at least we can say “it can’t get any worse”.

Game Time- 1:10 PM – TV-SNLA

There’s been a new internet meme spreading across twitter like wild fire. You know how much I hate internet memes. Yasiel Puig recently tweeted at Ram’s number one draft pick, quarterback Jared Goff offering to take him out on the town and show him Los Angeles. He offered to bring him to a Dodger game and ended the tweet with a #Puigyourfriend hashtag. It’s unbelievably adorable and yet undeniably annoying because it’s spurred all of twitter to use these annoying #yourfriend hashtags. I have some hashtags of my own though.

#Scoresomerunsyourfriend

#Winningbaseballgamesyourfriend

Here’s some hashtags for the front office…..

#Stopsigninginjuryriddledpitchersyourfriend

#Acquiringimpactplayersyourfriend

#Moneyballsucksyourfriend

And finally some generic hashtags for the Dodgers

#Stopplayinglikecrapyourfriend

#Stoplosingyourfriend

Ok that’s enough for now. Today’s pitching match-up will see Clayton Kershaw countering youngster Drew Pomeranz. He’s the 27-year old left hander the Padres acquired in the Yonder Alonso trade. He originally came up with the Rockies, and after flaming out in Colorado was traded to the A’s. This season he has a 2-2 record and a 2.86 ERA in 22 innings pitched. He’s whiffed 31 and walked 12 while posting a 12.7 strikeout per nine rate.

Against the Dodgers he’s struggled. Pomeranz is 0-3 with a 5.49 ERA in four starts. In those games he allowed 23 hits over 19.2 innings pitched. At Dodger Stadium he is 0-2 with a 6.75 ERA in three starts. The Dodgers have hit Pomeranz hard in the past but that was when he was with Colorado. Remember these are the CURRENT Dodgers, so you can almost bet your house that Pomeranz will hold them to 3 hits over 7 innings. Otherwise if the Dodgers actually use their bats then watch out, because they’ve hit .395 (15 for 38) with two home runs and 11 runs driven in against Pomeranz.

Clayton Kershaw is coming off that terrible start in which he imploded against the Marlins. Well, it wasn’t as bad as you would think. He did whiff 10 and walk none in that start, but allowed five earned runs for the time in a regular season game in years. Kershaw has always beaten down the Padres. In his illustrious career he is 13-6 with a 2.16 ERA in 28 starts. Kershaw has struck out 184 in 179.1 innings pitched. Against the current Padres, Kershaw has limited them to .205 (17 for 83) average against with a .506 OPS. For some strange reason Alexei Ramirez is 5 for 11 so watch out for him.

It’s time for the Dodgers to start making some changes before things get out of hand. You have to blame this on the front office for building such a mediocre roster. First we complain then we blame. Nah, I’m just playing! Can we just win a game Dodgers and get the heck out of here?

I would even settle for a rained out tie. Little victories I guess.

Go Blue!

  1. Kershaw had better bring his A game, ’cause that lineup sure isn’t going to scare anyone.

    1. They beat us last year! Remember we had trouble hitting last year, when we played the A’s, Rangers, and the Astros. And it got so bad, that Astro pitcher, threw a no hitter, against us. And when we played the Rangers at home, it got so bad, that Kike had to cause there pitcher, to balk to score a run, and we won.

  2. Silver lining department: Their TV outlet is a mess but they’re lucky. Think how upset people would be about that if they had a winning team that people would really like to watch…

          1. Another typo. I think. Dodgers’? Maybe you should take some time off. Or, start blogging for my team – the Dback’s.

  3. A lot of info there Scott. Thank you. Why do I think Pomeranz might be tougher today?

Twitterverse #dontcare. I did read the story about Goff and Puig. Goff is a professional now, but growing up hating the Dodgers isnt a good way to start in LA. At least he’s too young to remember the LA Rams.

  4. Scoreless through 2.

    Gonna be a long night.

Why is Kendrick playing ahead of Utley?

    1. Because a right handed lefty is throwing (sorry Scott) and the .295/.151 hitting Kendrick is poised for a 5 for 5 day. Oops, make that .148 and a 4 for 5 day.

  5. I just noticed – we’re in second place.

And make that a .145 hitting Kendrick and a 3 for 5 day.

  6. I rather have Utley in the game, then Howie, and I think most of us here, would prefer Utley in the game.

      1. Badger do you think that the hitters are having trouble hitting, because Roberts wanted them to hit the other way, when runners are on base?

      2. I have another question. Do you think that Puig knows that his hitting went down, when he started to pull everything?

        1. I’m not sure what is going on with him. He’s popping up a lot. He’s late. Lighter bat? Choke up an inch? Start with your hands higher? Go back in the box? These are the things I would do if I was behind everything.

3 hits. Top 5 of the lineup 0 for 16. Only Kershaw wins this one.

Back in first place on pace for 81 wins. Life is good.

  7. I sure hope that Agon gets a hit today. I feel bad for him. I can tell by his face, that it is getting to him.

    1. Watford the Dodgers haven’t had a day off, for twelve days. Maybe that is the problem! They have a day off tomorrow. So maybe there is hope. I bet you wish you could have been a major league player. Can you imagine?

  8. Heaven forbid that a .145 hitter should be asked to bunt a runner over. Attaboy, Dave! Let ’em swing!

  9. I expect play will soon be much better. Still to get the W it took Kershaw to pitch a shutout and drive in the games ONLY rbi.

    1. Didn’t Kershaw do that against the Giants a couple of years ago, a home run against Bumgarner?

      1. Brenly just said it was Fernando. The game you’re probably thinking about was a 4-0 Opening Day shutout.

  10. Well they knocked the crap out of the ball today! NOT!!! Thank God for Kershaw, who now must drive in the runs to win. The so called meat of the order was 0-15. Pretty bad in any league….abysmal in the majors. Nice throw by Puig. And Seager got that tag down fast. AJ Ellis still sees a lot of pitches and when he gets something he can drive, he is a pretty good hitter. They score this few runs on the road, it is going to be a long week. And Toronto has some hitters who will wear you out……

  11. A perfect game is when hard hit balls and weakly hit balls go to where a fielder can catch them. Kershaw pitched a perfect game except for two weakly hit balls that were not hit near a fielder. He pitched a shutout maybe because Turner made a great play to end the game.

A good way to beat the Dodgers is to use a left handed pitcher against them even if it means bringing up one from the minors.

When Ethier returns I can see where he will platoon with Puig.

  12. I was thinking maybe some of the players are tired, especially Turner and Cory, because they really didn’t have a full spring training. Remember Turner started spring training late, and Cory wasn’t able to start playing again, until the last week of spring training.
    Both because of there knees.

And they just finished playing 12 straight games, and those games in Colorado, probably takes a lot of the player’s energy. And after leaving, they have to adjust, and that last game, probably sucked a lot of there energy, because they went all out! After winning that last game, you would have thought that would have helped the team, feel better about themselves.

It is also really odd, that they didn’t have more momentum coming home, and facing the Marlins. And I bet none of us, thought after that win, that they would come home and implode.
