It’s Game 163 and I’m Optimistic about the Dodgers’ Chances

The Dodgers face the Rockies this afternoon in Game 163 – a one-game shot at the NL West division crown. I’ll be there, and here are three reasons I’m feeling optimistic on my way to the game.

Oscar Martinez

I was born in the shadow of Dodger Stadium and immediately drenched in Dodger Blue. Chavez Ravine is my baseball cathedral, Vin Scully was the golden voice of summer all my life, and Tommy Lasorda remains the greatest Dodgers manager ever. My favorite things are coffee, beer, and the Dodgers beating the Giants. I also blog about my baseball card hobby at All Trade Bait, All the Time.

  1. Oscar,

    Nice video.

    Please clarify.

If the Dodgers win the division, they will be the #2 seed in the NL playoff bracket.
This will guarantee Home Field Advantage vs, the Braves in the NLDS.

Should they beat the Braves, they will play either the Cubs or Brewers im the NLCS.

Because the Dodgers would be the #2 seed, they will have Home Field Advantage over either team. Regardless of head-to-head season records or overall best season records. The wildcard team cannot have home field advantage in the NLCS.

Go. Blue! Win one game at a time.
Am I correct in this assumption?

    1. The Dodgers can only have home field in the NLDS if they win today. If they lose they’ll be the number 5 seed and on the road for the wild card, and in that case if they win then they can’t have home field in any series the rest of the postseason. If they win over Colorado today they become the number 2 seed. The Cubs/Brewers winner has home field throughout based on their better regular season record. It is possible the Dodgers can get NLCS home field, but for that to happen they would have to win today, then have Colorado defeat whoever they play in wild card game, and also defeat their next opponent Brewers or Cubs in NLDS. So in that scenario if the Dodgers and Rockies met in NLCS (assuming the Dodgers are NL West champs) the Dodgers would have home field in that series.

  2. I’m stunned, after all I’ve read in posts and comments here, that the Dodgers actually made the playoffs.

    Happily stunned.

    Not really stunned.
