Gonzalez Returns, Same Old Story

Adrian Gonzalez was activated prior to the game as the Dodgers began a 7 game road trip which started against the Tigers for the first of three. Rich Hill went against Jordan Zimmerman who has fallen on hard times. The real question I think is would anyone be able to stop the Dodgers offense.

The game didn’t start off to good as known Dodger killer Justin Upton hit a double to score a run. Miggy then hit a double to score another run for the Tigers to make the score 2-0. Adrian Gonzalez in his first game back hit a deep double in the 2nd inning. Logan Forsythe then hit a single to put the Dodgers on the board.

Chris Taylor then hit a double to tie the score. Mr Consistent Corey Seager hit a single to score two runs. The Dodgers took the lead 4-2. In the bottom of the third inning Justin Upton hit a home-run to make the score 4-3. In the top of the Fourth inning Joc Pederson finally got out of his slump with a double. I bet he felt good. The double scored a run. Chris Taylor then doubled to score a run to make the score 6-3 Dodgers.

Logan Forsythe hit a double in the sixth to make it the third time he got on base in the game. Playing an American League team and having the DH definitely helped him. Corey Seager hit a sac fly to score another run. In the bottom of the sixth, Josh Fields came in to relieve Rich Hill. Victor Martinez greeted him with a home-run. Fields would finish the inning.  Pedro Baez pitched the next two innings of scoreless ball.

In the top of the ninth, Adrian Gonzalez hit a sac fly to score a run to make the score 8-4 in favor of the Dodgers. Kenley Jansen came in the Ninth and Justin Upton hit a home-run. The Tigers got some men on base but the Dodgers held on to win 8-5. The Dodgers (86-34) have won 20 of their last 23 games and are 51-9 over their last 60. Clayton Kershaw had a bullpen session and all indications are that it went good. Andre Ethier is also on a rehab assignment along with Grant Dayton. Everything looks good to go.

  1. Nice recap James!

I wonder what is Seager’s triple slash line with runners in scoring position this year. I’m assuming it’s got to be very high and maybe the top such stat amongs all the MVP contenders.

    1. One of the comments from the MLBTR story:

Bye Joc! No way this dudes coming in to replace Taylor or Puig. And with Gonzo back Bellinger is going to LF, Taylor will take over 2B

        1. It was for cash OR a player to be named later. I think this allows them to send Joc down to AAA to get his confidence back. But it also gives them a very good replacement. I doubt Grandyman will be as bad as Reddick was last year.
