Have a Day Kiké Hernandez

Kike Steals Home

Thursday afternoon’s 10-2 Dodger win was quite a game, and not just because Yasiel Puig blasted two monster home runs, or Brandon McCarthy tossed 6 innings of two-run ball. It wasn’t even because Corey Seager notched two more hits. Nope, the incredible event happened in the bottom of the sixth when the Dodgers pinch-hit for McCarthy. Kiké Hernandez got a hit.

That’s right our very own buddy Enrique Hernandez not only got a pinch-hit, but an extra-base hit. A double! Considering he had just 15 extra-base hits last year in 244 plate appearances, this is something of a memorable moment. It’s kind of like Haley’s comet. It only comes around once every 75 years or so, but when it does you don’t want to miss it. I know I have been pretty hard on poor Kike after his historically awful .190 hitting 2016 season. Maybe he’ll prove me wrong and have a bounce back year. I will gladly eat some crow for him to ya know….hit.

Check it out. The double came off of Jarred Cosart and it was hit pretty well. For the record Cosart is a right hander. Kiké put a great swing on that pitch and drove it into the gap.

Not only that but he also stole home and scored on a double steal later in the game. Check out some great base running below from our friend Kike.

Great game Kiké! Keep it up and maybe, just maybe I will let up a bit on you. I might even start using the accent mark. Stop the ridiculous Banana shtick please.

  1. Scott, the steal of home was on the same play as the delayed double steal. Kike hit a hanger, and Cosart was about as wild as they come. Not as wild as Bethancourt was the next inning. I am glad Kike contributed, against a RH pitcher no less. Padre pitching is either pretty good or god awful.

    1. I prefer to believe Kiké is better than he’s shown. Clearly management thinks so – he’s still here. But he must be on a short leash by now – right?

      1. Here it is:

        1. Logan Forsythe (R) 2B
        2. Franklin Gutierrez (R) LF
        3. Justin Turner (R) 3B
        4. Yasiel Puig (R) RF
        5. Scott Van Slyke (R) 1B
        6. Yasmani Grandal (S) C
        7. Enrique Hernandez (R) SS
        8. Joc Pederson (L) CF
        9. Hyun-Jin Ryu (R) P

        Go get ’em platoon.

        1. Puig in the 4 spot makes me nervous. Not that he isn’t capable physically, not sure he is ready mentally. If his head expands then so will his strike zone, okay that doesn’t take much to expand his strike zone I admit.

Puig, VanShite makes me nervous in the middle of the order. Puig, VanShite, Grandal all grouped together makes me extremely nervous. REally not one of these players is a consistent performer, we either score 60 runs today or we score 2. What’s the over and under on HIDP by Grandal today?

          1. Puig is on a hot streak. Coming off a game where he hit 2 dingers and he has 3 in 2 days. He should not make you nervous at all. He is a pretty good hitter at Coors, and in all honesty, Puig when he is on, is the best hitter in that lineup. The pitcher is a young guy, and Scotty hits lefty’s pretty good. We will see if Gutierrez has his mojo vs the LH too. I do think the defense suffers a little. Hernandez is not that great a SS, and Gutierrez in LF in one of the biggest parks in the majors is a little scary. Most of the Rockies power is RH, so Ryu will have to be on his game today.

          2. I predict he keeps his streak in tact and hits into another. At least 1……

        2. Wow. Yep, it’s been a long season. Time to give a few guys a day off.

Just finished playing a tough series against that minor league team and evidently it wore out a few of our players. Them 34 y/o , cough, I mean 24 & 22 year old legs can get tired after a 4 game series.

          1. HIDP for Grandal is 1 everyday.

Everybody hits in Colorado – right? And that mile high business is tough on everyone over the age of 18. Except those that live there. And the Rockies just got into town so maybe they’ll be gassed early too.

      2. He should be. I think he was over rated from the get go, but that is just me. Never liked that trade and never will…….Did you see the video of Kemp’s mammoth blast at NY yesterday? What a shot.

        1. I checked the web site, no mention of it there or on mlb.com…..I think he is pulling our leg. I would believe that he would go on for a right wrist contusion after that blast he took off his non pitching arm. OOPs it is true, ESPN just broke the news. Either Wood or Stripling will take his start in Chicago. Fields recalled from OKC.

    1. OMG…….Unbelievable! 1 game, 5 innings. Who could see that coming?

I guess next time they’ll have to limit his innings to 3.
