Too Hot To Run. Dodgers Stay Hot With Walk Off Win 2-1

It was 99 degrees at first pitch. The Dodgers and Brewers were both decked out in powder blue accented unis, and Kenta Maeda on the bump.

1st inning
Brewers
They say the hotter weather  makes it easier for home run balls to travel. Perhaps so, as Maeda gave up a first inning home run. 1-0

No additional scoring through the first three innings, but both sides put up some nice defensive plays to snuff out potential rallies.

4th inning  Brewers 1-0
Kenta Maeda started the inning at 69 pitches. He ended the inning at 80 pitches with eight strikeouts, the last four of them consecutive.

Maeda was having a good day on the mound, but if the Dodgers offense did not get going, it would all be for naught.

5th inning  Brewers 1-0
The Dodgers had their best chance of the game with men on first and second, and only one out. Nothing.

7th inning  Brewers 1-0
After 1/3 of the inning, Maeda went out with two men on. A great pitching performance on a super hot day.
Combustible Pedro Baez in.
One pitch – Double play.

8th inning
Dodgers
Enrique Hernandez tied it up with a pinch hit home run. 1-1

9th inning
Kenley Jansen held the Brewers.
Dodgers
Base hit, Adrian Gonzalez
Base hit, Trayce Thompson
Scott Van Slyke in to pinch run for AGon.
Howie Kendrick walk. Bases loaded.
Yasmani Grandal with a walk off walk to win.

Dodgers win 2-1

Kenta Maeda went 6 1/3 innings with 6 hits, 1 run, 3 walks, 8 Ks, 1 HR   ERA 2.64

Double: Corey Seager

Home run: Kike Hernandez

Team with RISP: 0 for 4  Forgiven, Father’s Day and super hot.

Minimal commentary today, folks. you know what day it is and everyone’s waiting for me to start up the BBQ.

Happy Father’s Day, everyone!

Chavez Ravine is my baseball cathedral, Vin Scully was the golden voice of summer all my life, and Tommy Lasorda remains the greatest Dodgers manager ever. My favorite things are coffee, beer, and the Dodgers beating the Giants. I also blog about my baseball card hobby at All Trade Bait, All the Time.

  1. Mercifully, Lee is gone. What a waste. Next to go is Anderson.

Chris Taylor is a baseball rat! He’s an over-achieving utilityman.

    Organizational depth!

    1. He should have been a QB – probably too late!

He is a great kid. I have met him and like him. He just can’t pitch…

  2. HAPPY FATHERS DAY EVERYONE!

You may find this hard to believe, but I have a 5-year-old Godson whose father is a Captain in the US Army. Why they chose me is a total mystery… but I digress.

I got a Father’s day card from him today that said”

    You are my role model.

    God help me!
