Dodger’s super kid 19-year old left hander Julio Urias will try it again on Tuesday evening in game 2 against the Rockies at Dodger Stadium. This will be the third career start for Urias, and his first appearance at Chavez Ravine. Hopefully being in front of the home crowd helps him settle down enough to give the boys in blue a quality start. Hopefully Dave Roberts, Andrew Friedman, and Bob Geren stop screwing around and play the few run scoring threats the Dodgers have. While Urias is trying to adjust to the major league level the Dodgers have to give him some run support. Maybe getting an early lead for once would be nice. Colorado’s Charlie Blackmon now has a 32 consecutive base reaching streak. So that is something to keep an eye on.
The Rockies will counter with right hander Eddie Butler. The 25-year old Chesapeake native has a 2-3 record with a 5.65 ERA in 8 appearances this season. He’s struck out 24 and walked only 6 across 36.2 frames. However he’s allowed 10.3 hits per nine innings. He has good command and is a ground ball pitcher, but doesn’t have much swing and miss stuff.

Butler is winless against the Dodgers. He’s 0-4 with a 7.04 ERA in 5 career starts against the Dodgers. By that I mean he’s going to throw a shutout of course. To be fair it doesn’t matter who the Dodgers face this year. My grandmother could shutout the Dodgers. Butler had made 3 starts at Dodger Stadium, and is 0-2 with a 7.30 ERA. The current Dodgers are batting .457 (21 for 46) with 8 runs driven in and an OPS of over 1.000 against Butler. Justin Turner has hit him the best by going 8 for 11 (.727) with 3 extra base-hits. By that I mean he’ll likely go 0 for 4 and ground into 3 double plays.

I wonder. Is it cathartic to constantly complain. I don’t know that it accomplishes much. Then again, all the pontificating here really doesn’t accomplish much in the grand scheme of things.
I don’t care if they sign nobody. This guy is no more than minor league fodder and has no shot at ever wearing a Dodger uniform in the big leagues. They have guys on the roster who are supposedly big league hitters who are not performing up to par, and we all know who they are. The kids are carrying this team, but they are playing with a short bench, which to me is totally stupid since it really limits the moves you can make late in games, and it is a fans nature to bitch and moan, same as it is for soldiers. Now the only guy at AAA who is hitting very well is Rob Segedin. Maybe they need to call him up and send Hernandez down until he gets his mojo back, But do something other than sitting on your frippen thumbs and changing the lineup every damn night….it gets old losing to teams that you should dominate. What they really need to do is get another GOOD starting pitcher……from somewhere, anywhere, just get one…

What is bad about Urias is that they haven’t prepared him for the big leagues.
That is because he never pitches beyond five or six innings. And because of this, he isn’t facing hitters the third time around in the order.
And that is when most pitchers, have the most trouble. So Urias probably isn’t pitching in trouble much.
But I hope he does well tonight, and can pitch a good game, that will give him confidence, and give the Dodgers a win.
My argument exactly. I have been saying all along that this kid has never pitched more than 88 innings in ANY season. He is 19, and they are protecting his arm….I condone that, but throwing a 19 year old to the wolves is just stupid….all the skill in the world does not beat experience.

Let’s just hope for the best! I read that Stripling was on a extended spring training, to watch his pitch count. And Stripling says he is fine. But I also saw that they listed him on the seven day DL like you have said. And Friedman says that they are preparing Stripling to pitch to a line up, the third time around like we were just referring to, about Urias. But Friedman said that Stripling will be coming back to the big team, but he didn’t know when, or if it would be as a starter, or in pen.
I don’t know how you prepare someone to pitch in the big leagues by having them throw three-inning games in Glendale. That’s also where our #2 pitching prospect is, apparently, recovering from his offseason conditioning or having his innings limited or whatever they do down the rabbit hole. But we’ve pencilled him in for July, just like Beachy last year. Help is always just over the horizon.
