New Series Wrap Up Video on Youtube

Hey everybody,

Here’s a new video on Youtube wrapping up the just completed series between the Dodgers and Giants.

Take a look and please like and share our videos (it only takes a second).

Oscar Martinez

I was born in the shadow of Dodger Stadium and immediately drenched in Dodger Blue. Chavez Ravine is my baseball cathedral, Vin Scully was the golden voice of summer all my life, and Tommy Lasorda remains the greatest Dodgers manager ever. My favorite things are coffee, beer, and the Dodgers beating the Giants. I also blog about my baseball card hobby at All Trade Bait, All the Time.

    1. Artieboy,
Thanks for the feedback. I laid off the beer because a couple of folks told me they felt the videos were too long. Once I start rambling about the Dodgers it really chews up the time, so I cut out the beer segment.
That said, I’m glad to hear there’s one person who did appreciate the beer reviews, so I’m dropping one into the next video just for you 🙂
I may not review beers every time, but I’m very happy to bring the beer segment back.

  1. Grandal seems to be locked in. Let’s hope it continues for as long as possible. I like my streaky hitters on hot streaks.

On Hersheiser I wonder if we should expect him to use stats like WHIP or FIP when on the air. His audience is ridiculously broad, wins is a more easily digestible stat than explaining some of the more advanced metrics. I mean Steiner uses batting average more than he uses OPS. Obviously, some could argue they should use the better stats and try to introduce them to new audiences, but I’m not sure that’s their jobs.

Everyone knows this, but the team just hasn’t hit their stride. Seager isn’t where he can be, nor Puig. Forsythe and Gonzalez stymied with injury (you could extend this to Ethier, but I didn’t expect much from him.) Kershaw looks to be coming close, likewise the rest of the starting staff (save Ryu.) If only the bats could find their way home and a solid RF solution can be found.

    1. Bluto

Joe uses all of the saber metric stats in his broadcast, and he even mentions obsure saber metric stats, at times.

And actually Puig is doing better then Joc, is, and Agone went three for four, last night, so he is probably close to being ready, if not ready now.

And to tell you the truth, I thought Ryu pitched better then Maeda did, before he got himself, to a better place.

I guess we all like to give you a hard time, but that is probably because, we like your persistence.

      1. My point isn’t whether Joe Davis does it, or Orel does it.

My point is that we should consider the vast audiences announcers announce to (ug) in commenting about what stats they cite.

Good to hear about Joe, though.

RF is still a worry in my eyes.

        1. Why is RF a worry? Puig is the best RF in the NL hands down. He is not hitting a ton, but he is 2nd on the team in RBI’s. And Roberts was quoted as saying Puig is playing every day in large part due to his defense. You show me a BETTER RF on this roster or in the minors. You cannot, because they do not have one.

          1. I don’t think you understood the point I was trying to make.

Either that, or I made it really, really poorly.

          2. No problem Bluto,,,All you said was RF was a worry……imply’s Puig is a problem, which so far he is not…..just not hitting what they had hoped, but they love his defense.

        2. There is a philosophy: “cater to everyone and you end up catering to no one”.

I listen (no tv) and Charley isn’t good with numbers period. Rick Monday is excellent with the nuances of the game and of the play at hand.

Nothing wrong with adding in newer stats but then Orel would have to explain how that can contradict or nullify the more basic stat.

  2. Interesting stuff from Keith Law on Dodger prospects.

    Before we get to it:
    ~
    1. These are Keith Law’s opinions and not mine!
    2. By posting it I don’t necessarily endorse it.

Tim: Any thoughts on the Dodgers thought process with Bellinger? Seems like with Gonzalez out, playing him at 1st would improve the defense pretty significantly over him in left with Utley at first. Have seen several misplayed balls over at 1st by Utley/Van Slyke.
Keith Law: I think they’re temporarily prioritizing contract (AG is signed through next year for too much money) over the best alignment of players (Bellinger at 1b, AG on the bench). If they get everyone healthy and play AG at first and Bellinger in left, then I think you’d have cause for complaint.

Brandon Johnson : Thinking long term, do Alex Verdugo and Willie Calhoun have more value to the Dodgers in LA or as trade bait?
Keith Law: I don’t see where Calhoun ever plays for them because he has no position. Verdugo has a very good chance to be a star or at least an above average regular, so I wouldn’t rush to put him in a deal, but Calhoun has more value in trade than he can ever have for the Dodgers.

    1. Keith Law needs to read up. Willie Calhoun has a position. He is playing second base at AAA and according to his manager there is doing a good job. Only 2 errors in 235 innings. RF about average.

AGon has value unless his injury prevents him from playing. He was a 2 WAR player last year. Not a lot, but not a liability either. The plan was for Bellinger to get better at AAA. Seems plans in LA get altered every few weeks. And what would be the complaint if everyone was healthy and both AGon and Bellinger were in the lineup?
