New Series Wrap Up vs Cardinals Video on Youtube

Hey everybody,

We’ve got an hour before game time. Plenty of time to catch the new Series Wrap Up report on Youtube.

Check out the Hero and the Goat of the series, and the beer review: Kirin Ichiban

Oscar Martinez

I was born in the shadow of Dodger Stadium and immediately drenched in Dodger Blue. Chavez Ravine is my baseball cathedral, Vin Scully was the golden voice of summer all my life, and Tommy Lasorda remains the greatest Dodgers manager ever. My favorite things are coffee, beer, and the Dodgers beating the Giants. I also blog about my baseball card hobby at All Trade Bait, All the Time.

  1. Muck-raker Heyman has 70 players who may impact the trade deadline:

Of interest to Dodger fans are (from the general to the specific)

    1. LOTS of starting pitching
    2. Fair amount of relief
    3. Some OF (RF) power
    4. Old friend Dee Gordon rates high. I hadn’t followed Gordon at all, so two things were very surprising to me:
    A. He has a bad contract (did he resign after the Dodgers traded him?)
    B. He’s been slumping for 2 years!
    5. Verlander is directly tied to the Dodgers
    6. So is Ryan Braun (boooo!)

      1. Badger,

        1. What would you give up for those guys? They won’t be cheap.
        2. You still gonna start worrying June 1 if Gonzalez isn’t hitting?

        1. Yep. But I’m confident he’s close. 4 doubles in his last 5 games. Only 2 GDP.

Who would I give up for those three guys? Not enough to get all of them. Cobb and Archer are AL players so we could include Calhoun in the package. Maybe we part with Verdugo. And there are some A pitchers we could throw in. Cole would be my first choice, but as you know I already traded everybody for Trout, even some guys who aren’t here anymore.

          1. I like Cole the most as well.

Gonzalez isn’t here to strikeout and hit doubles. The Ks are as sad as the DPs.

          2. All right
            All right
            All right!

That’s what the Dodgers need out of Gonzalez!

    1. Gordon got a long term deal after he won the batting title in 2015. That was before he was suspended for PED use. Since last year and this year he has played only 124 games. He is not hitting .333 like he did in 2015, but he is hitting a respectable .280 this year with 14 steals. He finished at .268 in 79 games last year about what he would hit normally over 162. So he has not been slumping. He has just not hit what he did in 2015. He stole 33 bases last year and is on pace to at least match that. Dodger fans would be jumping for joy if some of out players were hitting .280. His OBP is about what it was when he was a Dodger, low 300’s. He of course has no power, but he does have 10 extra base hits. He is about what he was for the Dodgers, but so far he is striking out less than he did in LA.

    2. Gordon is in the 2nd year of a 5 year 50 million dollar contract. That is not a bad thing. He is 29, so he will be 32 when the deal is over. No way I want the Dodgers to trade for Verlander, makes no sense. They have plenty of old guys on the roster already. Why would they want him? He is 4-3 with an ERA pushing 5 and has given up 9 dingers already. And he is 34 years old. They do not need him. Braun is back on the DL and really no longer fits on this team.

    3. Dee Gordon’s got a bad contract? Gee, I thought he was quite pleased with it…. It’s all in the eye of the beholder.

      1. Gordon does not have a bad contract. He’ll put up enough WAR over the length of it to earn his money.

          1. Why would he be? It doesn’t affect his pay, nor does it really affect when he might be activated to pitch again, since it is retroactive to his last game appearance which is quite a ways back, and extends forward through any refresher spring training he will surely have to go through. Administrative detail only.

  2. I think we stand pat and see what we have. I think our farm is way overrated at this point but we’ve found some good role players in cheap signings like Toles and Taylor. I’d trade the farm for a big time two way player to go with Seager, but not this year.

    1. You and me both. Maybe a reliever, but a position player>? That is not FAZ’s MO. Unless you want another Reddick….

    2. They traded for Taylor. Zack Lee went to the Mariners for him. Probably one of the better trades the FAZMASTER has made. Toles was a free agent. I also think they over rate their players down in the minors, but there might be a gem or two left. But who out there is worth anything and on the trade block? Mostly what I see is veterans on the down hill side. McCutcheon, Braun, guys like that can be had, but are they worth it? Our infield is pretty solid and will be better when Turner returns. The bench is decent, but could use a really solid LH hitter with POWER. The OF is solid defensively, but the bats have been inconsistent. One plus is that the outfield is relatively young. There is not a starter out there over 26. You have 3 30 year olds on the infield. I think they might deal for a reliever, but who knows what lurks in the mind of the FAZ?

      1. Remember those barrels you used to pour diesel fuel into and burn? That’s what lurks in the mind of the FAZ…

      2. At the start of the year my only real concern was starting pitching. McBrittle at 3.76 and 5.2 per outing has been better than I thought he would be. Wood has surprised the hell out of me. I’m still cautious about the rotation, and believe we will use up all that depth everyone seems to think is there. The bullpen is going to get tested too. I haven’t been that concerned about the offense. I think we’ll score. We haven’t looked that great offensively, I think we’ll get better, and we are still 6th in runs scored.

I don’t know what FAZ has in mind but a stud #2 wouldn’t hurt. That would be where I would look, but I haven’t been right about FAZtrategy yet.
