Stewart Loses Game 7-0, And Dodgers Lose Another Player

The Dodgers presented us tonight with another debut of yet another young phenom. This time it was The Blue Meteor™, Brock Stewart, breaking through the baseball stratosphere and onto a major league mound less than 100 days from his first start in Class-A Rancho Cucamonga.

Julio Urias had a near-disastrous debut in the big apple. How would Stewart do in the land of beer and sausages?

1st inning
Brock Stewart vs Brewers
Jonathan Villar– K

Scooter Gennett – K
Ryan Braun – Ground out

Well, that started out promising.

2nd inning
Brewers
Oops – Brock gave up a couple of singles and then he grooved a three run bomb. 3-0
The Brewers weren’t done with Stewart yet. Then came a bases loaded double by Ryan Braun. 5-0

3rd inning  Brewers 5-0
Brewers

4th inning  Brewers 5-0
With a man on first, Adrian Gonzalez struck out – and on the way back to the bench, he was thrown out of the game.

Replays showed Gonzalez had a couple of words for the HP umpire after a swinging strike three. It seemed as if he sarcastically asked, while walking away from the plate, if he swung at a strike.

Gonzalez continued walking toward the dugout, and after a few steps, he waived his right hand toward third base as though dismissing something said to him. All of this was done calmly, and as he walked steadily toward the Dodgers’ dugout.  Nevertheless, Third base umpire Dan “Hair Trigger” Bellino, thought it was major enough to toss the Dodgers’ clean up hitter from the game.

Sidenote: Gonzalez being thrown out left manager Dave Roberts with only two men on the bench, Chris Taylor and Yasmani Grandal.

5th inning  Brewers 5-0
Dodgers: Nothin’ but six K’s through the first five innings. Stewart hasn’t allowed a run since the second.

6th inning  Brewers 5-0
Stewart out. J.P. Howell in.
Howell and A.J. Ellis combined on a “strike ’em out, throw ’em out” play to end the inning. It was the second baserunner Ellis threw out.

7th inning  Brewers 5-0
Ryan Braun continued feasting on Dodgers pitching, with a two run blast to right field.

From the “What the heck else can possibly go wrong?” file:Yasiel Puig crashed into the right-field bullpen fence attempting to catch Braun’s home run. Puig came away from the fence with a noticeable limp.

8th inning  Brewers 7-0
Dodgers
Puig led off the inning. He grounded out to short, but the real story was the way one of his legs immediately  gave way coming out of the box. Puig gallantly hobbled down to first and finished with a painful limp.

9th inning  Brewers 7-0
Brewers
With Yasiel Puig out of the game, Roberts sent his remaining players on the field to defend positions as he pulled their names from a hat.
Mercifully, the Dodgers and Brewers decided to just “end it already”. And so they did.

Dodgers lose 7-0

Brock Stewart’s ML debut wasn’t any better than Urias’, but we saw the same calm demeanor that Urias showed when things didn’t go right. Stewart gave up five runs, but they were all in one inning. Three of those runs scored when he gave up a home run on a grooved pitch that just about any major leaguer would have blasted.

On the bright side: Stewart eventually settled in, filling out a full five innings. The Brewers never scored again and he picked up seven strike outs along the way.

On the black and blue side: It looks as though the Dodgers medical staff is going to be working overtime with a newly injured player, Yasiel Puig.

Brock Stewart (L 0-1) went five innings with 8 hits, 5 runs, 2 walks, 7  Ks, 1 HR.   ERA 9.00

Double: Seager

Team with RISP: 0 for 2

  1. I like what I see of Brock Stewart – he’s a keeper. You are what your record says you are, but he had some really bad luck. I think he’s a guy who will go 6 or 7 innings pretty consistently. If it’s up to me, he stays in the rotation.

You can’t have Hatcher, Howell and Baez in the same bullpen – pick one! AX TWO!

This offensive malaise has got to end. Roberts and the coaches need to tear up the clubhouse and threaten to execute the whole roster. THIS BS HAS TO END!

The Mets are last (30th) in hitting at .233. The Dodgers are 29th at .235! That is deplorable. Turner Ward and Tim Hyers have until the All-Star game and then I am firing them! Bring Rudy Jaramillo out of retirement! I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore!

  2. “I’m not going to take it anymore!”

Yeah you are. We all are. Stand by. It might get a lot worse before it gets any better.

    1. The self righteous and their indignation just crack me up…….like he has any power to fire anyone……his delusions are getting delusional.

        1. I have never been delusional Mark, and if you are being sarcastic, sound more like it instead of a know it all….

  3. A bleeder, a bloop and a blast. The kid kept his composure. When he left the ball up in the zone, major league hitters did what they do best. He showed me a lot. As for the 3rd base umpire, that guy needs his temper checked. Adrian was walking away……Bellino has always been a hot head. The Dodger offense disappeared as usual against a average pitcher. This injury stuff keeps up, the entire OKC team will be here soon..

    1. Not sure why umpires continue to act so hoity toity. The general rule used to be turn your back and walk away. None of them do that today. Show them up? F them. They are just not that important to the game. Bellino, and others like him, are a problem for MLB. By the way, Dan Bellino is wrong 12% of the time. And he’s not the worst. Not even close. But he’s one of the biggest hotheads. He should be called on it.

      1. And we have vacation replacement umpires now. How is it that they need a vacation in the middle of the season? That must be one heck of a union.

  4. MLB needs to go to electronic balls and strikes – that would take a lot of the strain away! This is the 21st Century, after all.

    1. So I guess DR making statements of his back barking for awhile and him making his next start was, well wishful thinking. He lives in the land of FAZ so I guess it all makes sense.
