A Yasmani Grand(al) Slam Lifts Dodgers Over The Rockies 7-4

After an emotional series, the Dodgers sent the fading Giants down south, beaten and limping, to face the Padres. Tonight they welcomed the “meh” Rockies. Could the boys in blue keep up the fire necessary to close out the run to the NL West title?

1st inning
A perfect inning for Brett Anderson.

2nd inning
The Rockies drew first blood, scoring 3 fast runs on 4 singles.
Dodgers
Yasmani Grandal got a little back with a solo homer. 1-3

3rd inning. 1-3
A much-needed 1,2,3 inning for Brett Anderson.

The fourth inning belongs to Chase…

5th inning 1-3
Andersdon gave up a solo home run. 1-4

6th inning  1-4
The Dodgers finally put a threat together with two on and one out for Josh Reddick. He picked up a soft grounder RBI. 2-4

7th inning  2-4
The Dodgers once again showed offensive promise with bases loaded, one out, and Adrian Gonzalez coming up.
Gonzalez walked, to make it 3-4.
Up came Yaz with the bases still loaded, and he went BOOOOOOM!!! with his second bomber of the night. This time, it was a grand slam to make it 7-4 Dodgers.

The Rockies never recovered, and that’s how the game closed out.

Dodgers Win! 7-4

I could rant and rail over the waste – and almost loss – that came at the hands of Brett Anderson, but the Dodgers won, and the magic number has been dropped to Duke Snider’s number 4, so let’s just stay positive tonight.

The ol’ LADR mojo strikes again: Right after we suggested Corey Seager drop in the batting order, the skipper dropped Seager down to bat third.

We also liked Andrew Toles batting higher in the order, and he batted second tonight. Tolesy went 0 for 3 with a strike out, but we love Toles’ speed and power at the top of the lineup. Here’s hoping he stays up there.

Welcome back, Dre: Andre Ethier led off the big seventh inning rally with a pinch hit double.

Yas sir!: Yasmani went 4 for 4, with 5 RBIs, 2 HRs, and 1 grand(al) slam!

Brett Anderson went 5 innings with 6 hits, 4 runs, 1 HR, 1 walk, 2 Ks.  ERA 15.00  That’s no typo, it’s friggin’ 15!

Team with RISP: 1 for 9

Final Tributes: The Rockies stopped by the booth to honor Vinny:

  1. Damn it’s good to be a Dodger fan… 4 is it???
Mark, although it’s painful to watch Grandal go for balls in the dirt, it sure is nice to have a catcher with 27/69…
    OK, the stage is MJ’s…

  2. I saw AJ Ellis almost beat the Mets yesterday. Leave the Mets alone, AJ. They and the Cards are the only hopes to get rid of the giants once and for all. Who will win a Mets v giants play in game? My guess is that it will be the aholes. Cards v giants? Cards. Mets v Cards? Who cares? Nice win last night. Bullpen was good again. Where has Reddick’s power gone? He used to hit HRs. Now, it’s bloop singles. Not a problem for Grandal. I bow to Mark on that call. Who needs pitch framing? We haven’t heard much about that stat lately. Probably BS from the start. If Grandal can stay in the lineup, he might be a 35 HR guy. Any team would love that. Except Posey lovers.

  3. Ya but Bobbie17, I haven’t seen a catcher like Posey come down the pike in a long time… Currently on NYY Sanchez watch..
Bluto, you hang in there… We have one of the best minor lg. systems, but it’s not enough… F.O. today and something else tomorrow…

  4. “The same guys who put together the bullpen, signed Toles, traded for Hill, traded for Grandal…
And assembled this first place team, the same first place team with a top ranked farm system!”
    A great comeback .
I just like to get ahead of the days bitchin n moaning… Out to pursue todays adventures.. Attn: Local guys and gals, game televised on channel 5 the next couple nights…

    1. Peterj and Bluto,

Since the end of last season, this board has had such an illogical hatred of anything FAZ based solely upon absolute BS. Gradually, many of them have left and blamed it on my badgering of them. Theysimply just can’t stand the truth.

Give me a logical, coherent argument and I’ll listen. Incessant harping on FAZ post-after-post is just nauseating when you are saying nothing.

All I can say now to all the ones who talked so crazy is SCOREBOARD!

They have been exposed as frauds. Wouldn’t it be something if we won it all?

        1. In had to rant to make up for incessant, everlasting, prolonged, repeated, neverending, rampant, complaining ad nauseum.

          1. I heard the same crap when Ned was the GM. Fans disagree on everything. Just because someone dislikes the front office does not mean they are dumb or do not have an argument. They just do not look at it the way others do. Look, I do not like this FO. Never have. And it is because I am not a saber metric guy. They have made moves that worked, some that have not and some that have been head scratching. At least to fans who do not immerse them selves in the endless statistics that saber metrics seem to come up with. I did not like the Kemp trade nor the Gordon deal. But that’s just me. I understand why it was done, but I still do not have to like it. It is old news now and we have Grandal, Kendrick, Hernandez, Barnes as a direct result of those deals. We still have Hatcher, but he is on the DL. Of those players only Grandal and Kendrick are really contributing. Hernandez since the end of May has been a mess. And although Grandal is hitting for power, he is still very inconsistent and streaky. Maybe he changes that over the next year or so. Maybe not. But he is painful to watch blocking pitches in the dirt. Kendrick is the consummate pro. Over all the team is playing well. I credit Dave Roberts for brilliant use of his bull pen, and at least trying to get every one on the bench playing time. The team is tough and has grit. That is the good news. The bad news is that on paper, the starting rotation does not matchup with either Washington or Chicago. But in the long run, I am not giving a whole lot of credit to a front office run by guys who at this point have never won a world title. They assembled these guys, Dave Roberts has made them a team. But a WS winner…..I am very skeptical they can achieve that. We shall see, maybe if they win, the whining will stop, but you can bet, they lose, let Turner and Jansen walk, and the fans will be howling like wolves next spring…..

    2. Peter

Let’s hear some credit for Roberts.

He and his coaches, have changed the attitude of the team, and has helped them to become grinders.

Roberts and his staff, are down in the trenches, helping this team, to continue keep fighting, in the last days of this long season.

And they were the ones, that got the team to stick together and play good baseball, after Kershaw went down.

Roberts and Honecutt, have had to do there best, with a starting pitching rotation, that fell apart early, from injuries.

And they have had to be creative to keep the pitchers in the bullpen, from pitching to many innings, because most of the pitchers in the starting rotation, can’t pitch much more then five innings.

And all of the players, deserve a lot of credit for sticking togther, and playing hard, after Kershaw went out too.

And they are still playing hard right now.

And they are not giving up, even when there down by quite a few runs, in the later innings of the game.

      1. Where is your consistency? You complain about pitchers being pulled after only 5 innings. You complain about Reddick playing every day and Toles not playing every day, you complain about where Turner, Seager, and Pederson hit in the lineup… Everything you complain about is a decision made by that managerial genius, Dave Roberts. And yet you want to give all the credit when the team wins. Very inconsistent.

        1. Wondering

I don’t complain where Turner, Joc, and where Seager hit in the line up.

Someone had made a batting order, and I did comment, and told that person I liked there line up.

But even the person who made the line up, wasn’t complaining, they were just saying how they would make the line up.

          I don’t consider that complaining.
And about Turner, early in the season, when he had not hitting well for two months, I thought Roberts should move Turner down in the line up.

But at the time, I didn’t know how hard it was, for Turner to come back from that knee surgery.

But I was not the only one that thought that.

And only Badger and Mark said that Turner would come around and hit, during that time in the season.

But obviously I, and others, were wrong about moving Turner down, because he came around, and started hitting.

And I don’t comment on the pitchers being pulled after five innings.

I have accepted that most of the starting pitchers, can’t pitch much over five innings.

I do think starting pitchers, should be able to pitch more then five innings.

But the front offce brought some these starting pitchers to the team, that are not able to pitch much more then five innings.

          How is that Roberts fault?

I have complained about playing Reddick over Toles and Puig.

But I just think Roberts is doing that, because he thinks, that is what the front office, wants him to do.

After all, they traded for Reddick.

And I don’t think the Dodgers would be in first place, with all of these injuries, if Roberts wasn’t the manager.

I think Roberts and his coaches, have changed the culture of this team.

And Roberts and his staff, started this, from the begining of spring training.

Without Roberts, having these players, buying into the team concept, I don’t think the team would be in first place, after all I the injuries, and losing Kershaw to injury too.

And not only did Roberts turn these players, into a team, he has turn this team, into a team of grinders.

And the team now reflect Roberts personality.

Roberts had to work his but off, to even make it to the majors.

  5. Damn M.J. and Mark, I’m on your side… Right now I think Roberts is N.L.M.O.Y.
and as usual Honeycutt is on top of his game this year…
I’m close to winning NLW and I’m elated as this has come down to a total team effort and a lil luck, which is necessary…
Sure I wish sometimes I had a big RH bopper in the middle of the lineup and our pitchers could go more than 5 IP, but I’m not whining, just winning..
Most of all I want Vin to stay for the playoffs, because maybe, just maybe, he’s our rabbit’s foot…

    1. We should all thank our lucky stars that the Giants went in the tank after the all star break and have not come close to being the team they were in the first half, other wise we would be chasing a smoke cloud. MJ, Roberts has had to use that bull pen because beyond CK, and sometimes Hill, there is not a pitcher on this roster who has been able to consistently go 6 or 7. Maeda has done it a few times, Stripling did it once. Kazmir had I think 3 starts where he went at least 6. Other than that it has been a fasten your seat belts rotation. Also, you KNOW why Reddick plays over Toles. Reddick was supposed to be the offensive plus addition at the dead line. Instead he was nothing but dead weight. FAZ still thinks the guy will get hot and knock in some big runs when they need it, And he will probably not be back next year, so they are trying to make that trade look good…….Toles will be back next year.
