Brandon McCarthy Returns To Old Stomping Grounds

The Dodgers kicked off the second half of the season with a bang, walloping the Dbacks by a score of 13-7. The offense exploded for 13 runs off 18 hits. Chris Taylor had the game of his life collecting three hits, hitting a grand slam home run and driving in six runs. Bud Norris finally beat the Dbacks for the first time in his life and the Dodgers moved a season high 12 games above .500. They also gained a game on the Giants after the Padres knocked off Bumgarner and the rest of those jerks. The Dodgers are now 5.5 games back.

The Dodgers look for a series win tonight as Brandon McCarthy returns to his old stomping grounds as the Snakes will counter with right handed youngster Archie Bradley. The 23-year old second year pitcher is making his 12th start this season for the Dbacks.

For McCarthy this means a return to his old home. McCarthy pitched for the Dbacks from 2013-2014. This is his third start since returning from the disabled list. He’s 2-0 with a 2.70 ERA. He’s allowed 3 earned runs over 10 innings pitched and struck out 14 against just 4 walks. He’s pitched well, but how has he done in Chase Field? He never pitched well there. The tall lanky right hander is 3-11 with a 4.49 ERA in 22 career starts at Chase Field. McCarthy has never faced his former team before.

The Snakes will give the ball to their former first round pick. Bradley is 3-5 with a 4.64 ERA across 64 innings pitched. He’s struck out 66 and walked 30 and posted a 1.4 WHIP. Bradley has faced the Dodgers once this year, which was back on June 14. The Dodgers beat him as he allowed 5 earned runs on 5 hits across 5.2 innings with 9 strikeouts. In 2 career starts Bradley is 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA versus the Dodgers.

Trayce Thompson is out with a bad back which could land him on the disabled list. (Updateit has/) That means we’ll be seeing a lot of Scott Van Slyke and Howie Kendrick in the outfield for the time being. Joc Pederson should be back next week, so it won’t hurt as much as we think it might.

Go Blue!
