The Cheatin’ Astros Caused me to Rethink Myself as a Dodgers Fan

The Cheatin’ Astros’ scandal has caused me to step back and re-evaluate some of my opinions about the Dodgers

I was born in the shadow of Dodger Stadium and immediately drenched in Dodger Blue. Chavez Ravine is my baseball cathedral, Vin Scully was the golden voice of summer all my life, and Tommy Lasorda remains the greatest Dodgers manager ever. My favorite things are coffee, beer, and the Dodgers beating the Giants. I also blog about my baseball card hobby at All Trade Bait, All the Time.

  1. Excellent video Oscar. Since this subject was something of great interest to me, I watched the entire thing because i wanted to see if someone other than myself was incensed by this. You are right that what the Astros did does not excuse or explain how badly Roberts managed this team. But they still won game 7 in the Dodgers home park. They did not have the same ability to steal signs there. I read that Darvish was rethinking about whether he was tipping his pitches, or the Stros were stealing signs. Makes no difference now since he just stunk up the place period. The investigation will no doubt shed more light on what actually happened and there is a pretty good chance that 2 of the individuals involved, Carlos Beltran, and Alex Cora, the Sox skipper, who was a Stros coach at the time, will receive some sort of punishment if it is found that they are guilty of this. In any event, the Stros have lost some glitter from that season. I feel bad for the players who did not cheat. In that series, CK had pretty much 1 bad inning. Blowing the 4 run lead. The team got 3 back, but CK could not protect that. I think Kershaw is a very good pitcher even now, but his hardheadedness has caused him some grief. Being a fan as long as I have, I still find the comparison’s with Koufax ridiculous. Koufax was usually nails in the post season. Kersh has been spotty at best. I think that 17 series shook Jansen’s confidence badly.

      1. Like you, I tell it like it is. When I see someone who is deserving of being raked over the coals, I do exactly what you do. Conversely I do the same when the praise is deserved. The video was well thought out and your argument was accurate. Baseball will undoubtedly do absolutely nothing except a slap on the wrist. The 2 guys who might catch the heat are Cora and Beltran. They could end up getting the worst punishment of all. I was a Dodger fan before they moved to LA. My first MLB experience was at the coliseum. If memory serves, they were playing the Cardinals. So I was blessed to see Musial and Ken Boyer. I remember those powerhouse Braves with Mathews, Aaron, Joe Adcock, Lew Burdette, and Warren Spahn. I probably saw maybe 30 games there while they played in that venue. I was living in a home in Highland Park. We got free tickets for a lot of games. I got to see the greats, Koufax, Clemente, Mays, McCovey, Rose when he was a rookie and so many others. I was hooked on a game that I loved to play. I collected cards and knew the stats on the back by heart. Then I got involved in learning the history of the game, I read about the greats I never got to see. And it hooked me even more. I became a student of the game. Now in my later years, with all the PED stuff, and now a cheating scandal, I am getting really fed up. Not with the game, but with the hierarchy of the game.
