The Freeway Series of Mediocrity Continues – Weaver vs. Kershaw

Freeway Series1

The Freeway Series continues on Tuesday night as the Dodgers conclude their nine game home stand. A win would give the club a 5-4 record, but a loss means a losing home stand. Regardless they’ve had another lackluster home stand. The Dodgers are mired in mediocrity and only major changes to the roster can turn things around for them. These are not championship caliber players. The big problems are the offense and the lack of viable relief pitching. The Dodgers just can’t consistently hit and score runs at home. Once again until the Dodgers make roster changes they will continue to lose and be mediocre.

Speaking of mediocre pitching, the Angels are chock full of it. Former ace Jered Weaver has really fallen from grace. This year he has a 3-2 record and a 6.10 ERA in 38.1 innings pitched. Weaver’s strikeout rate has decreased every year. He’s whiffed just 24 batters which comes out to a 5.6 strikeout per nine rate. He’s allowed 12.2 hits per nine innings and 52 hits in 38.1 frames. He’s been prone to the long ball too. Weaver has allowed eight home runs.

Clayton Kershaw will counter Weaver. Kershaw is coming off of his 13-whiff masterpiece against the Mets. Kershaw is having another season for the ages. Kershaw is 5-1 with a 1.74 ERA over 62 frames. Kershaw has struck out 77 and walked 4. Kershaw has allowed 6.0 hits per nine innings and has a brilliant 0.726 WHIP. The ace lefty has a 19-1 strikeout to walk ratio which is simply mind blowing.

The random lineups continue. Now Justin Turner is batting second for some reason. Chase Utley is leading off and Corey Seager is batting third. Oh and look the .200 hitting Howie Kendrick is batting cleanup. Adrian Gonzalez is out while he rests his rusty back. Reach for those stars Dodgers.

Maybe they can scrape together a couple of runs for Kershaw? I feel bad for Kershaw surrounded by all of this mediocrity. Poor guy, You have my sympathy Clayton.

    1. Scott I agree Howie has the least power, in this line up. Utley will hit more HRs then Howie. I hope they can get Kershaw some runs too. It is hard to watch the team not hit, especially when they are facing pitchers, with such high eras.

  1. The day is off to a good note. First Donnie starts Trayce and then the Lakers get the #2 pick in the draft!

  2. Dumb lineup. They should have Turner play first, Kike on third and have Seager hit cleanup.

  3. Did Kendrick agree to a $20M two year contract in exchange for 400 at bats each year? Does anybody have a better explanation?

      1. When is Puig going to stay inside the ball, and try to hit the ball, up the middle?

That was the worse swing I think I ever saw.

    1. Bobby he is still a stud, but he is also almost human. Cory has the same temperament that Trout has.

They both never let there emotions, get out of hand, and affect there play.

    1. Trayce seems to always have good at bats. When he hit that single up the middle, that showed Trayce’s maturity, because he is not going up to bat, and swinging really hard, like Puig and Joc do.

He had a very hard out to third, and a walk, also.

Darn Turner hit into that double play, or Cory’s HR, would have got Kershaw two more runs.

  4. Trayce has hit the ball hard each time. In fact he hits the ball hard almost every time. He simply needs to play. He can hit both right and left handers.
