The Dodgers have now won eight consecutive home contests after defeating the Rockies by a 6-1 score on Saturday night. The Dodgers are now a season high 9 games above .500 and 5 games behind the Giants in the NL West. This comes as a huge surprise considering the club is now without Clayton Kershaw. It seems that perhaps Mark was right. With Kershaw down the club must pull together in an incredible “sum of their parts” manner.
Today the Dodgers will go for the sweep of the Rockies as walking wounded Brandon McCarthy makes his return to the mound. Brock Stewart was optioned back to OKC to make room for McCarthy. The Dodgers signed McCarthy to a 48 million dollar contract before the 2015 season and he has yet to provide one once of value. He made 5 uninspiring starts before blowing out his arm and having Tommy John surgery. He hasn’t pitched since then and it’s important for us to remember to keep expectations low.
Quite low actually. I’m happy to see McCarthy return as long as he holds his weight. I want McCarthy to succeed obviously since he’s a Dodger. At the same time I know full well that he may suck and it’s unlikely he’ll throw more than 5 innings. McCarthy is 1-2 with a 5.40 ERA in 5 career starts against the Rockies.

The Rockies will counter with 24-year old right hander Jon Gray. The Shawnee, Oklahoma native is 5-3 with a 4.83 ERA across 76.2 innings pitched. Gray has struck out 9.8 per nine. The second year starter faced the Dodgers back on April 22 and allowed five earned runs in five innings of work. Gray is 0-1 with a 6.52 ERA in two career starts versus the Dodgers.

That’s about it for now. Sorry for the lateness here guys, but sometimes life gets in the way of Dodger baseball. Enjoy the game and happy fourth everyone!
Go Blue!
Puig hadn’t made an idiot play in a while, so he needed to let it out there.
And man, McCarthy is dealing today! His ball is at 94, and really moving. Great to see
Bobby
MCCarthy did pitch a good game!
Why was Puig not near his base?
How about the third base coach today, who had Grandal run into the tag.
Dodgers outright Sierra.
Los Angeles signed Sierra – a Cuba native – to a deal worth upward of $30MM in February, making him easily the most interesting name in this group. The move hasn’t gone according to plan, though, as the 25-year-old has disappointed at the High-A level this season. In 49 innings, Sierra has run up a 4.69 ERA with 6.05 K/9 against 3.70 BB/9.
Maybe they just need a spot on the 40 man roster, but in any event they apparently don’t think much of that $30MM purchase just 5 months ago. Then again, maybe this is part of an ongoing trade….
A lot of other baseball people thought that was a bad signing.
Seems quite early to be dumping a $30mil signing. Unless he did something so egregious that maybe we rescind that contract?
He made it through wavers so he is on the minor league team.
Holy cow these guys piss away money on cuban$. Are we the welfare system for Cuban refugees? Do Castro and his brother have pictures of Stanley?
Really need to commend our bullpen. They’re being asked to go minimum 3 innings every game, and man they’re doing the job!
With that contract nobody would take him. Easy decision for KAZ. He stays in our minor league system. He may or may not be a failure as time passes.
I agree with you Bobby on our bull pen. They had problems early, but they are now doing their job. Four innings today and giving up one run.
Sierra wasn’t a good pitcher in Cuba either. Here’s Bleacher Report:
“Sierra’s Cuban National Series stats aren’t impressive, with Baseball-Reference.com showing he had a 6.10 ERA with 55 strikeouts and 31 walks in 62 innings for Holguin in 2014.”
He was never thought be be a particularly great prospect – he’s 25 and doesn’t consistently throw strikes. I never understood this signing.
Great start by McCarthy. Let’s have more like that, please!
What was that silly business during the game when a bunch of strange people ran onto the field and ?????
Wondering
That was weird! Vin said they were kids, but that could be anyone under 40.
