Can Mike Bolsinger Pitch Past The 5th Inning Against Brewers? Can Justin Turner Stay Hot?

Justin Turner

The Dodgers rebounded quite nicely from their annoying 8-6 loss to the Brewers in the series opener. Justin Turner had quite a night as he continues his quest to turn his season around and troll Oscar in the process. Turner drove in all three runs for the Dodgers on Friday night. That included two solo home runs and a walk-off single in the bottom of the tenth to give the Dodgers a 3-2 win. Is the red dream back? Mega prospect Julio Urias struck out 8 over 5 frames and the Dodgers evened the series. Tonight they’ll give the ball to four inning man Mike Bolsinger. The Brewers will counter with Chase Anderson.

For the Brewers, the 28-year old right hander Anderson has made 13 starts for the Brewers and posted a 4-6 record with a 4.42 ERA. Anderson was acquired along with Aaron Hill in the Jean Segura trade and has pitched somewhat respectable. Over 71.1 innings pitched he’s whiffed 57 and walked 19.He’s prone to the long ball however as he’s given up 14 on the season. Poor fly ball to ground ball ratios has caused his issues this season.

Anderson is 1-1 with a 3.51 ERA in 6 career starts against the Dodgers. Remember he’s seen the Dodgers a lot from his days with Dbacks. He’s been very good at Dodger Stadium with an 0-1 record and a 1.96 ERA in 4 career starts. Turner has never faced Anderson, but the rest of the Dodgers have. Yasmani Grandal has 3 career home runs and Adrian Gonzalez is 4 for 11.

Mike Bolsinger will counter for the Dodgers. The former Dback and teammate of Anderson has been pretty horrendous this season. Over 5 starts Bolsinger is 1-4 with a 5.76 ERA. He has struck out 24 in 25 innings though, and walked 7. He’s made 3 career starts against the Brewers and is 0-1 with a 4.67 ERA. Bolsinger has not pitched past the sixth inning in any of his starts and has lost three consecutive decisions. The Brewers are 8 for 25 (.320) against Bolsinger with two home runs.

The Dodgers still have a long way to go if they want to catch the Giants in the NL West. However Turner getting hot is a big boost to the offense and might help me not say funny things on twitter. Now if only 5 or 6 other Dodgers would start hitting that would be great. I’m just saying. Try to stay hydrated because it’s a hot one out there. Enjoy your Saturday!

Go Blue!

  1. Hernandez in LF? Are you kidding? Pederson is 1 for 9 against this pitcher and batting leadoff? When we were kids, we knew the Dodger lineup by heart. Now, even Dave Roberts doesn’t know what it is until he opens his e-mail.

    1. Ain’t that the truth. Gilliam, Reese, Snider, Campy, Hodges, Furillo, etc. and a pitching staff 7,8,9 innings 80% of the time. Throwing 140-150 pitches back then was not that uncommon. Back then the players were made of iron not cottage cheese.
I was born in Brooklyn and saw many a Dodger game in person. It seems to me the players back then were more accessible to the fan and played for the team instead of themselves. JMO

    2. Snider
They probably have Joc leading off, so that Joc will get fastballs. It is a way to try to get Joc hitting.

Believe me, I rather have Chase leading off. Because Chase is hitting 400 against this leftie pitcher.

And you know Joc’s numbers. Howie has no hits against this pitcher, but Howie is hitting right now, so I like that he is playing.

I just wish both Howie and Chase were both playing. Kike is playing to night, but there are no numbers listed for Kike, so he probably hasn’t faced this pitcher.

I didn’t like that Venable was playing over Howie yesterday.

But Venable helped with win yesterday. He hit that his big double, in the tenth inning. So you just never know.

    1. Watching the game after dinner. Had pasta primavera.

We appear to be hitting again. Hope it lasts.

Bolsinger looks hittable. Give me a bat, I want a shot at him.

    2. Watching TV Land? Playing mah-jong? Anything but watch Bolsinger pitch. DL imminent. Send up the next victim, er, prospect.

    3. In left field loge section. Was about to write the night off. Make Hatcher bat clean up.

Attended an alumni function before the game and heard Kasten talk. He was a little testy fielding questions about the Time Warner deal and the relief pitching.

      1. Dodger patch
It sounds like you had a great day and night. Even though you didn’t think your night was going to be that good, after Bolsinger allowed five runs.

I’m glad the offense came back, and made it a good night for you!

        1. thanks MJ. It was a fun game. Bolsinger is gone, but it look like the offense is, hopefully, improving a tick. I hope Puig coming back doesn’t put a kibbosh on that momentum. Keep Thompson out there. ….Maybe it was me, but it looked like Joc was trying to go other way a little more.

        1. He was asked, predictably, about the Time Warner deal and the television fiasco. His take, which he took pretty brusquely with my brother-in-law who asked the question, was that, if you aren’t happy with the fact that your cable company isn’t televising Dodger games, yet they are ostensibly charging for that service, then you should be on the phone to that cable company complaining. If you aren’t, if you aren’t complaining to your cable company, then you’re apparently satisfied with not watching Dodger games on TV. He additionally made the point that the LA Times, which has been a harsh critic of the Time Warner deal, has a relationship with DirecTV, so there’s a journalistic conflict of interest.

He was a little confrontational about it..even angry. As for the complaint about the bullpen, he was quick to aggressively point out that the Dodgers bullpen is currently tops in the national league. “That’s just a fact!”

At the alumni meet I attended, we originally were supposed to hear Lasorda talk, but he was a scratch and Kasten was a last minute fill in. He struck me as a one of those type A CEO types who don’t suffer fools and are not particularly patient. He’s not a PR schmoozer.

          1. Sounds like the wrong guy to be taking questions. He’s right about the cable business I suppose.

Best bullpen? Just a fact? Did anyone mention 2nd in blown saves?

Thanks for the info. I appreciate it.

  2. This collection of players on the Dodgers, is just about as bad as the 1988 team prior to Gibson’s swing as a pinch hitter.

Mark keep saying how AA and AAA are so loaded with great players — well, time to bring at least half of the up.

  3. All Justin Turner bashers have officially left the house!

    He’s not an everyday third-baseman!

Keep telling yourself that… silly boy!

    1. There hitting now, but wait until tomorrow’s game.

It is suppose to be 106 tomorrow.

Right now it is 81 in Southern California.

This is the first big heat wave this year!

Before this week, California has been cold for this time of the year.

Roberts said that the bats would heat up at home, once it got hot!

    1. It’s just one game – they are still only 3 or 4 games over .500 even if they win and the Brewers stink.

      Wait and see.

    2. If we keep this up think it will effect another Latos move at the deadline. That should be fun.

But, 6 for 10 WRISP? Will we see that again?

Hatcher with a hit and got his ERA down to 4.71. Pederson with 3 hits?

AGon might be reading here. “Back? Back this mother fadger!”

I hope we continue seeing this. Washington up on Monday. I dont think we go 6 for 10 against them.

  4. Bolsinger is packing his bags. He will go to OKC tomorrow.

    Who will they call up?

De Leon pitched tonight -he’s up to 4 innings.

    De Jong? Oakes? Barlow?

    Stripling? Montas? Cotton?

I say they will pick Cotton.
