In the battle of the last two teams to call themselves world champions, the Dodgers came out victorious and won the series after a hard-fought game on Sunday. A low-scoring affair and what some say was a questionable ending to the game, the Dodgers head to Chicago to try and get some revenge against the Cubs in a two-game set that starts on Tuesday. The play in question was when the Rangers’ Wyatt Langford attempted to steal second with two outs, only to get caught stealing. The Rangers challenged the play with the replay, and depending on who you ask, ” showed he was out or safe. It was that close, but our Boys in Blue got the call in the end, and the series victory. Shotime was back in the lineup after missing the first two games due to being on the paternity list. While he didn’t register a hit, he got a walk, and the lineup feels different with the superstar sitting at the top of it. The scariest part of the game was that Tyler Glasnow had to exit the game in the fifth inning after pitching well. After the match, it was described as lower leg cramps that caused him to exit the game, which Dodger Nation can breathe a sigh of relief knowing their star pitcher will not be out very long, and probably make their next scheduled start if everything goes well between now and then.
The two-game series against the Chicago Cubs will be a good time to see if there can be some payback after the Cubs picked up that series win at Dodger Stadium last weekend. Tuesday night’s first game will pit Dustin May against the Cubs’ ace Shota Imanaga. On Wednesday night, the Cubs will send Matthew Boyd to go against the still-to-be-determined pitcher for the Dodgers. Wrigley Field always plays tricks with the wind, but never as much as it does in the early months, especially in April, so most likely the wind will be blowing in and the games could be a low-scoring affair, or it could become a slugfest with the wind blowing out, so who knows. I do know that I like the Dodgers’ chances in both scenarios, as the lineup and pitching are well-equipped to handle both. Eddie Rosario came to the Dodgers; he is gone just like that. He was added to fill in for Shohei’s absence and was designated for assignment today when the superstar returned. A quality player who will no doubt catch on with another team, and if not claimed, could take a minor league assignment to stay with the Dodgers and see when he will be needed again. Still, that scenario is pretty slim as a player of his caliber doesn’t often hang around the minor leagues waiting for call-ups.
It was a fun series down in Texas, and even though I wanted them to sweep them, it’s never a bad thing to win a series. If you win two out of every three games for the rest of the season, anybody would take that ratio. The environment will be quite different as going from a closed roof stadium in Texas that seemed like it was half if not more full of Dodger fans to Wrigley where it could be windy and chilly and the Cubs fans show up in large numbers so it will be a good test as this may be a preview of the first round in this years playoffs. Respecting the opposition while holding yourself to a championship standard is the epitome of the Dodger way. Bouncing back from hard losses like the one that happened Saturday shows you the grit and determination our team shows daily. I hope everyone has a good start to the workweek and enjoys tomorrow, because on Tuesday, it will be time for some more Dodger baseball.
