Kershaw Takes The Mound at Petco

Clayton Kershaw

Fresh off the Cody Bellinger coming out party last night in which he blasted two homers. The Dodgers make a change in their rotation today and will go with Clayton Kershaw (4-2, 2.61 ERA) to face off against left hander Clayton Richard (2-3, 4.29 ERA). Brandon McCarthy was supposed to go today but he tweaked his shoulder and will pitch tomorrow.  The Dodgers will face off against the dreaded left hander today so we will see what kind of lineup the Dodgers will have.

The Dodgers lineup today looks like this:

Taylor 2B
Seager SS
Turner 3B
Gutierrez LF
Bellinger 1B
Hernandez CF
Puig RF
Barnes C
Kershaw P

The Dodgers will go with a mostly right handed lineup.  The Dodgers usually have trouble with Richard. He’s 7-4 with a 3.42 ERA against them.  Last time Richard pitched against the Dodgers he went 8 innings and allowed one hit.  The Padres lineup today will look like this:

Margot CF Spangenberg 3B Myers 1B Solarte 2B Hedges C Renfroe RF Blash LF Sardinas SS Richard P.  Kershaw has dominated the Padres in his career.  Kershaw is 15-6 with a 2.03 ERA versus the Padres in 30 career starts.  I figure if Kershaw can recover from his last bad start against the Giants he should be able to take care of the Padres.

Richard will indeed use his sinker to neutralize the Dodgers.  I’m hoping the Dodgers can make some adjustments and get some offense going.  I’m thinking it will be a low scoring game.  Kershaw needs to be careful with Solarte who has had some minimal success against him.

Yasiel Puig and Kike Hernandez have had some success against Richard.  I’m betting on Cody Bellinger making an impact tonight.  Petco usually has more Dodgers fans so it should feel like a home game for the Boys in Blue.  Tonight it will be the Battle of the Claytons.

  1. Mark Reynolds just hit his 10th. 4 zip in the first.

Brenly just gave an interesting Colorado stat, in the last 6 years, the Rockies have had 1 winning month after the month of April.

  2. Puig sure hates to walk. According to gameday, the first 7 pitches were all balls, yet Puig swung at 5 of them before singling on the only pitch in the strike zone…

    1. Game day is more inaccurate than the umps. I watched the game. Puig has been walking more this year than in previous years and he is not chasing that low outside pitch like he used to. The ump last night was almost as bad as the guy the other day.

  3. 5 to nothing. Red Auerbach would probably light up his cigar now but, pessimist that I am, I wouldn’t “put it in the refrigerator” as Chick used to say.

  4. I’m watching the game now,
    On MLB tv,
    A shutout’s predicted,
    A shutout we’ll see.
    San Diego has zero,
    The Dodgers have 5,
    Even Padres score nothing,
    When God’s on your side.

      1. Squirrel!!

This one plays in San Diego. The guy is hitting .157!

        I got the 10 right.

You think Kershaw might be willing to talk about an ezone?

Bellinger looks like he can hit anything.

        G’Nite everyone!
