World Series Game 3: Dodgers Bats, Arms and Gloves Too Fat For Yankees, On Verge of Title

Dodgers World Series Game 3

The Dodgers survived a ninth-inning rally from the Yankees and a Shohei Ohtani Injury scare on Saturday night to win game 2 of the World Series and take a commanding 2-0 lead. The Dodgers flew into New York as the series shifted to Yankee Stadium. Fat Joe did the pre-game ceremony but the only thing fat were the Dodgers bats as they turned in another sterling performance. Starting pitcher Walker Buehler tossed five scoreless innings, Freddie Freeman smashed a 2-run home run (homering in five consecutive World Series games) and the Dodgers dazzled with the gloves making several highlight reel defensive plays en route to a 4-2 win. The Dodgers are now up 3-0 in the series and just one win away from winning the World Series. I can taste a title.

Buehler was fantastic, firing on all cylinders. In this game we got vintage big game Buehler as he allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out five over five innings. The only trouble he got into was in the bottom of the fourth when Giancarlo Stanton doubled with one out. Jazz Chisholm Jr. smacked a sinking liner to right, but Mookie Betts made a diving catch. The Dodgers flashed the leather again later in the inning. Anthony Volpe lined a single to left, but Teoscar Hernandez launched his cannon to throw out Stanton at the plate.

Meanwhile on the other side, New York starter Clarke Schmidt was shaky from the beginning. Shohei Ohtani protecting his weak shoulder the entire game worked a walk. One out later series hero Freddie Freeman launched a home run into the right field seats to give the Dodgers a 2-0 lead. The Dodger bats kept putting pressure on the Yankees. In the top of the third, Tommy Edman walks and after a ground out Mookie flares a single into shallow right to score Edman and give the Dodgers a 3-0 lead. In the top of the sixth with Jake Cousins on the mound, Gavin Lux is hit by a pitch and steals second base. October legend Enrique Hernandez stays red hot by stroking a single into center to score Lux and the Dodgers took a 4-0 lead.

The Dodgers bullpen took things the rest of the way from here. Brusdar Graterol pitched the bottom of the sixth. Juan Soto drew a one-out walk and after an Aaron Judge ground out, Stanton singles to put two on for New York. Alex Vesia Comes in to get Chisholm on a force (with Edman doing a toe tap due to a high throw from Brusdar) and the Dodgers get out of it.

Love me lots of Banda

The Yankees put some traffic on in the bottom of the seventh, but once again couldn’t get the big hit. Daniel Hudson strikes out Volpe. Then Rizzo singles to center. Pinch-hitter Austin Wells is struck out and Alex Verdugo walks. Anthony Banda comes through again whiffing Gleyber Torres to end the inning. Ryan Brasier tosses a scoreless bottom of the eighth, striking out Chisholm and Stanton. The Yankees made one last desperate push in the bottom of the ninth. With Michael Kopech on the mound, Volpe strikes out but he walks Rizzo. Wells fouls out to Freeman, but Verdugo homers to cut the Dodger’s lead to 4-2. Thankfully that was too little too late for the Bronx Bombers. Torres grounds out to short to end the game. The Dodgers now have a 3-0 lead in the Fall Classic. One more win and the Dodgers win the World Series, All of Los Angeles gets lit, and I will cry.

Just sweep.
