The Dodgers May Never Score Another Run Again, Lose 0-7

Hey everybody! Remember double-headers? They used to be commonplace, just like stirrups and reasonably priced stadium beer.
Now it’s 2016, and you’d be hard pressed to find a double header anywhere in the majors. But the Dodgers and the Rockies had one today. Here’s how the first game went.

1st inning
A long double brought in the Rockies’ first run. 0-1

2nd inning
Rockies
Ross Stripling gave up another double-and a single. And then another single. 0-2
A heads up DP by Adrian Gonzalez shot the Rockies down.

3rd inning  0-2
Another Dodgers double play saved Stripling’s bacon. This time Gonzalez started the action.

4th inning  0-2
By this point, Stripling settled down and tossed two scoreless.

5th inning  0-2
The first 1,2,3 inning of the day for Stripling.
Like Maeda, he held the Rockies to only two early-inning runs. The question was, would the Dodgers bullpen be able to keep the Rockies scoreless? And even if they did, would the Dodgers offense come to life and deliver any run support?

6th inning  0-2
Stripling still in. He gave up a lead off double HIGH off the CF wall. He then gave up a fly ball over Rob Segedin. 0-3

7th inning  0-3
Kiké Enrique Hernandez led off with a walk. Charlie Culberson advanced him with a one-out single.
Ks by Yasmani Grandal and Howie Kendrick left home plate cold and deserted.
Rockies
Casey Fien in. Rockies home run ball out. 0-4

8th inning  0-4
J.P. Howell in. Another Rockies rally. Another 3 runs in. 0-7

That was it. Dodgers lost 0-7

The Dodgers have only scored one run over the first two games of the series. They have scored ten runs over the last seven games. 1.42 runs a game. Sheesh.

Nothing good to report in the notes. The Dodgers were flat all day, and they still have one more game to go! Look out, Hilda!

Ross Stripling (L 3-6) went 6 innings with 9 hits, 3 runs, 1 walk and 2 Ks.  ERA 4.15

Team with RISP: 0 for 7. Apparently, the Dodgers can lead base runners to third, but they can’t make them come home.

  1. Reddick starting game 2.

This is his last chance to collect even 1 rbi for us in his first month as a Dodger!!! Come on Josh!

I can’t believe I have as many RBI for the Dodgers this month as Josh Reddick does

  2. Hill out and Norris in. Great. The trade so far? Hill 1 start in August, Reddick 0 HR, 0 RBI in August.

Kershaw can’t come back fast enough.

    Dodgers already down 5 – 2.

      1. The troops that are coming –
        1 – Are mostly pitchers. they won’t help with the current slump or with the Dodgers’ inability to hit lefties;
        2 – The injured pitchers who are coming back are a mixed bag – Kershaw (great), Kazmir (OK), Anderson (yuck), McCarthy (?), Coleman (OK), Avilan (?), Baez (yuck);
3 – The troops that could help the most other than Kershaw might be Puig but he apparently isn’t coming

          I know!

          I am frustrated too.

I am tired of Roberts playing these part time players, instead of the regular team.

Kike and Culberson shouldn’t be playing over the regular players.

They are not getting consistent at bats, and really, they are more minor leaguers not major leaguers.

Culberson has a good split against lefties, but that must been from earlier in the season.

He is just has one hit, in his last 14 at bats.

I just don’t understand why Roberts continues to stay with the same line up.

          It has never really worked.

And the Dodgers will be facing even more lefties, if teams are smart.

And we may be seeing this line up, more then the regular line up.

I just don’t get why Roberts won’t try another line up, against lefties.

Kike, Culberson, and Segedin, are not the answer to the leftie problem.

  3. Another boring game to watch.

Although, to be honest, back in 1988 or 1999, I once attended a double header against SD, and we lost both games. Now THAT was a waste of time!

This is hard to watch because there is no answer to the problem.

Why continue to play a line up, that just isn’t working,

    1. You’d be tired too if you were chasing balls in the gap or running to back up bases all day and night.

      1. Snider
I am not the one that said that.

And Garvey thought the two series against the Cubs and the Giants made them tired.

        1. I didn’t say you were. And, yes, playing at that level probably did take a toll. I’ll take Garvey’s word because he played every day in a lot of pennant races.

      2. Tired? Please. They are in their 20’s or early 30’s and play baseball for a living. Most of the time they are standing around. For that they get a median wage of $1.3 million a year. You want tired try working a 12 hour shift at a hospital or put in 8 on the end of a pick and shovel. I’ve done both and I’ve also played 6 games on Sunday coming out of the losers bracket. In 105 degree heat. Playing ball was fun.

That’s the way it was AND WE LIKED IT!!

    1. Toles!!!!!!!!!!!!! If he isn’t in the starting lineup from now on, something is definitely WRONG. The kid is just AWESOME. Small sample BUT he’s also 3-3 w/ a homer VS LHP!!

    1. That was Friedman’s call. He knew him from Tampa. Another reclamation job, but miracle of miracles, this one seems to have worked……1 for 30 ain’t bad

  4. Write this one down. It’s huge!

As Orel said: “It feels like a sweep for the Blue.”

Never underestimate what this does for a team. Reddick even got untracked.

At this juncture, we have an All-LH outfield.

    1. Not with that guy, give me Puig anyday over the big mistake that is Josh Reddick. I am supposed to be happy about 1 ribbie in a month? No thanks…I like PRODUCTION from a hitter.

  5. First things first. My room mate came home from the hospital this afternoon. There is really nothing else they can do for him. He is resting right now, and to tell the truth he needs it. Good thing I waited to write this post until after the game was finished. Reminded me of one of the games I went to in May. The first one Maeda won like 3-1. The second game on Sunday, The Dodgers were ahead 7-5 and the Rockies scored 5 in the bottom of the 8th. The Dodgers came back and scored 5 in the top of the 9th and won 12-10. That being said, I do not care that Josh Reddick finally got his first Dodger RBI. I would rather see Toles, Pederson and Kendrick out there and him on the bench. He had to do something to make up for his error. Remind me again why we traded for Bud Norris. What ever we gave up was too much. We have gotten 6 innings and 1 RBI out of our vaunted dead line pick ups. The good news is that FAZ did not make a waiver deal to bring in more dead weight. The A’s definitely got the best of that deal. Reinforcements are coming. Mostly pitchers for now, but rumor has it that Puig will be brought back after OKC finishes their season. That means the playoffs. Do not look for Deleon. According to a couple of story’s I have read, the Dodgers are concerned with giving guys MLB time. Just look how many rookies that they have used this year. Bellinger for sure will not be here. Barnes will be one of the first call ups. There is just no way you can defend the way they played for the first 25 innings of this series. They were out pitched, out hit, out fielded and overmatched against some pretty weak pitchers. And who is the bozo who dreams up these line ups? Kike Hernandez should not leave the bench the rest of the year with a bat in his hands. He is pitiful. If Utley is not leading off, use Toles or Kendrick. Hernandez lost what ever mojo he had left over from last year a long time ago, not even the same hitter now. Toles grand salami reminded me that Alex Guererro did the same thing to the Rockies in the 9th inning last year. I would really love to see the FAZOMANIACS spin on this debacle against the Rocks. Seems like saber metrics have flunked the test. They should have DFA’d Reddick and brought Puig back. Anyone who would rather watch Reddick flail away is 2 slices short of a full loaf.

It was good to hear from you.

I totally agree with you about playing Howie, Joc, and Toles in the outfield.

I am not impressed at all with Reddick, and I looked at his stats, and they are not impressive.

The only time he has really had a good batting average was when he only had about 250 at bats, so that made his batting average look good twice, but obviously he isn’t that great of a hitter.

He looks over matched when he is up to bat, to me.

And Toles should have been playing before last night, because he has hit any chance he has been given, even in his first major league at bat.

Reddick is only a one month rental, thankfully.

    1. Bobby
      Good article.

I guess Greinke is not as bad as some thing here, because the front office still has interest in Greinke.

Maybe this means, that Hill won’t be able to help us much, with that blister he has
