Dodgers Manager Dave Roberts Discusses 2020 Season, Expanded Rosters With Jim Rome

The Jim Rome show is back over here. Dodger’s manager Dave Roberts stopped by to discuss preparing for the upcoming 2020 season. If there is a season, how long would the players need to be ready? Would an extra two weeks be enough time for pitchers to build arm strength? Roberts also talks about expanding rosters as well. If the season begins, we could see rosters expand to 30 players in order to compensate for the long layoff and truncated spring training. Check out the conversation.

  1. There will be long term impacts of pitchers having a short time to build arm strength. Likely injuries, possibly more TJ surgeries. I hope I’m wrong.

  2. Baseball is no where close to being played. I think if they do not get going by July, the season is going to be called off.

    1. From the Washington Post:

“Unfortunately, I think perhaps if anything, having large spectator sports open back up may even have to be delayed a little bit longer than relaxing some of the other things,” said Dean Winslow, an infectious-disease doctor at Stanford. “I hate to say that, because I’m a big sports fan. “There’s also the scenario a lot of people worry about, including my friend Dr. Fauci, that if you relax the control measures too soon, you could potentially induce a second wave of transmission to susceptible people,” Winslow added when asked about professional and college football starting on time. “It’s a little too soon to make that prediction. I certainly don’t think it’s impossible that we’ll be able to start resuming things such as sporting events by the early fall.”

I’ve seen this theme in more than one place as we progress through this. Pressure for certain messages to be put forth are of coming from the obvious sources but this to me is the thread of thought that makes the most sense.

I wish I knew more but I’m getting mixed messages. Even my wife believes this will be contained by July. I just don’t know, but I do fear the worst.
