The Magic Continues For Dodgers

Kyle Farmer

Who would’ve thought recently called up catcher Kyle Farmer in his first Mlb at bat would hit a game winning double against the Giants. Of course that would happen, these 2017 Dodgers seem to  be on a mission and are never out of any game.  It was a great game to watch on Sunday night baseball on ESPN, as Madbum and Hyun-Jin Ryu engaged in a pitching battle.

Bumgarner kept the Dodgers at bay for most of the game. Everyone wanted him to battle with Yasiel Puig. Ryu did a great of keeping the Giants batters off balance for most of the game. These Dodgers can beat you all kinds of ways and it was displayed tonight. Madbum kept the Dodgers scoreless for 7 innings. Ryu was given a lot of support tonight because he was in trouble most of the night.

Ryu had the benefit of four double plays to get him out of jams. The Giants hit into six on the night. The most exciting double play came in the seventh inning. Brandon Crawford lined to center with Panik on third. Kike Hernandez gunned him down at home to keep the game scoreless. These Dodgers will grind you down.

Josh Fields was called in for the 8th inning and gave up a solo shot to Conor Gillaspie. During the game the Dodgers left a lot of runners on base. In the bottom of the ninth, Chase Utley hit an infield single. Utley then stole second base. Yasiel Puig then singled him in to tie the game. The Giants took the lead in the 11th inning to take a 2-1 lead.

Corey Seager hit a double in the bottom of the 11th to get the Dodgers in business. You could see the comeback was on the Horizon. Seager has been hot lately. Justin Turner was walked. Kyle Farmer then laced a double on a full count for the Dodgers to get their 9th walk off win.

The Dodgers have been invincible at home. The Dodgers won their 8th game in a row and have taken the lead in the season series against the hated ones.

Its time to for the front office to put this team over the hump. Tomorrow at 1pm is the trade deadline.

Theo gets the Cubs a good starter, and the Tiger’s closer.

And we were suppose to be in on the Tigers closer.

I am getting worried because we do need another dominate arm, and especially a leftie for our bullpen.

And Theo has made the right moves to get his team, a world championship

  1. I’d like to know when the last time a guy making his major league debut had a game winning hit, a walk off no less, in his very first MLB at bat.

    1. Not sure Nathan, but I think the last Dodger to do it was Greg Brock in 1982. Or so that is what I heard. I’de have to look it up to confirm, but I am far too excited to do that right now

  2. Wow. What a weekend! What a streak! What a summer!

Another pre-FAZ prospect comes through…..yes, this time it’s Farmer.

I must point out once again.

This current Dodgers team assembled by the great and powerful FAZ was 9 – 11 after April 24th. Out of desperation and as a last resort, Cody Bellinger was brought up on 4/25 and proceeded to light a fire under this team showing the youngin’s, the vets and the newbies how to 1.) hit a baseball, 2.) play defense and 3.)run the bases. They watched and followed his lead. Since his call up the Dodgers have went 65 – 20. THAT IS A .765 WINNING %. That is over a 3 month period. Unbelievable. The kid has led this bunch out of the wilderness. Can he lead them to the promise land? Will FAZ provide a little bit of help? That remains to be seen.

    1. “Another pre-FAZ prospect comes through”

      LOL.

Probably the biggest miracle of this Dodger team being maybe the best in a hundred years is just how they were able to pull it off in spite of the sheer incompetence of this front office. FAZ can’t do a single thing right, but still, this team just manages to pull through and win, and win at an unprecedented clip, in spite of the incalculable burden of the mistake of hiring Friedman.

Thank you Ned Coletti for making this year happen.

      1. DP-

Quick. What year did the Seattle Mariners win 116 games? AND did they win a World Series?

How quickly a great season is forgotten….unless of course they are the last team standing and spilling champagne. Will this be the last team standing in 2017? We’ll know in about 100 days or less.

      2. I’ve always said that I would rather be a player or fan of the 2006 St. Louis Cardinals (83 regular season wins) than the 2001 Seattle Mariners (116 regular season wins). Just look at the final results.

  3. It is time for the Forshyte experience to end. Dude takes way too many called third strikes plus way too many other unproductive at bats. Here’s an idea, Barnes takes 2B on a regular basis and Farmer becomes the back-up catcher. Do it now while there is still two months left in the regular season, find out what you got in Farmer and get ready for the playoffs. Forshyte started out poorly and continues to be a disappointment. Why in the hell does Roberts insist on batting Forshyte in the 5 hole, that is just stunningly stupid?

    1. I wouldn’t miss him. Moving him would get us that much closer ($8 million) to cap level. With that said, he’s a FAZ move and they aren’t likely to do it. He’s streaky. Maybe September/October will be his months.

          1. I agree about Forsythe.

He is hitting under 200 against righties, and he is OPSing in the 500s against righties, too.

I would bat him eighth, but Puig is better at eighth, so I would bat Forsythe seventh.

    2. You don’t like him and his 3 homers in that power spot in the line up? I remember folks clamoring at his 20 HR’s from a year ago. Said then and still say that he would be lucky to hit 10 homers.

Let’s look ahead to the playoffs…..Who do you pitch to with men in scoring position, Bellinger or Forsythe? Hmmm.

      1. Well, the obvious answer is Bellinger. But the question might be Barnes or Forsythe. And that might depend on whether Forsythe is having his monthly period.

I wonder if Calhoun is ready to hit ML right hand pitching. What if he tears it up in September? I know we have Utley, who has looked good since being terrible, but what if he gets terrible again?

I also wonder if Calhoun will be a Dodger after today.

  4. Nathan, Farmer is the first Dodger in history to have a walk off hit in his very first mlb at bat. Brock and somebody else had walkoffs (maybe in their first game), but not in their first ab

  5. Watching ESPN for up to the minute up dates going into the 4 PM deadline. Looks like it is the Dodgers and the Indians in on Darvish, Yanks closing on Gray, Reed to the BoSox. Still assimilating what happened last night. It was one of the more awesome moments in a regular season game in a long time. Farmer looked VERY professional in that at bat, and grateful kid that he is, he praised his coaches. And he is the # 30 prospect in the organization. I might not always agree with the way FAZ does things, and that is more because I am not into saber metrics and that way of evaluating players, but this team is comprised of players from both regimes. Guys brought in by Colletti and FAZ’s additions to that team. Some have been outstanding, Wood, Taylor, Bellinger, Seager, Turner, Kersh, and Jansen. Others have not met expectations placed on them by management and the fans. Forsythe, Joc, Maeda, and to some extent, Puig, although he has been working very hard to improve. Some like Barnes have been total surprises. Grandal is playing very well and has been consistent for probably the first time in his career, he has always been very streaky. Every move they have made so far has worked out. Bellinger has more than filled Adrian’s spot. Taylor filled the void in LF, and the bench has performed very well. Mixing and matching in the rotation and bullpen has kept the staff fresh. Roberts in my mind has been a genius in his use of that pen. All those guys down there are unselfish and know they are going to pitch. Morrow brings serious heat every time he comes out of the pen. This team has a winning mentality and attitude. They believe. As fans, we have seen them prove time after time that they never give up. Last night, as I watched the game and the way they tied it in the 9th, and then down 1 in the 11th did not waste at bats, I knew they were going to win the game. I did not know how, but I knew they BELIEVED and they would fight to the end, one way or another. 9 walk off wins, 31 come from behind wins. That’s championship stuff. And Hyun Jin Ryu turned back the clock and was Ryu of 3 years ago. Both regimes deserve credit for their contributions to this team. Breaking news, LA awarded the 2028 Olympic games.

    1. When Utley got on I turned to my wife and said “he’s gonna score and the Dodgers are going to win”. You could even see it on the giants’ faces.

Please, baseball gods, allow them to carry this mojo to November.

    2. Michael

There is a really good article in the LA Times today, about the game last night, and about Farmer.

And the Times doesn’t stop anyone from going to there articles, like they did in the past.

    3. Utley practically tied the game for us last night, all by himself.

But he did have a little help from Puig, to get him home!

And Puig had one of his best clutch, at bats, to get Utley in.

Turner should have had a game winning hit too.

        1. Badger

You still have to give Utley the credit too, besides Utley didn’t fool around on first, he also took second, on the pitcher.

          1. I do give Utley credit MJ. He did what he needed to do once he got on base. But you cannot steal first. You either earn it or it is given to you. Gillaspie gave the base away. You simply must take the outs they give you. I’m sure Gillaspie would agree.

  6. 33 minutes to deadline. No Dodger moves yet. Yankees get Gray WITHOUT giving up top prospects.

    1. Dunno about that, but like that return for the A’s.

Like that return for the A’s, but I’m a James Kaprielian guy. Before his surgery he had electric stuff. Better than Buehler, IMO. If he can return he’s a front-of-the-rotation kind of arm. Huge upside.

I am surprised no Florial, but Fowler has potential when healthy. And, this is important, I know very little.

      1. Agree about Kaprielian. His fastball is a 60, change up and slider 55. He’s the real deal IF he heals. First round #16 out of UCLA. I have to root for that guy.

  7. My favorite line in Brisbee’s piece was, It is 1974 again, and the Dodgers are going to be good forever, and the Giants won’t win another game.

  8. If you want to see which metrics may matter most to the Dodgers, look at exit velocity.

    Lowest EVs

    1. Hill
    2. Watson
    6. McCarthy
    8. Maeda
    9. Wood
    11. Kershaw

  9. Per Rosenthal, Dodgers get Cingrani from the Reds also. Watson and Cingrani…two lefty relievers.

      1. Wasn’t Cingrani pretty good at one time?

I can’t believe we got Darvish.

When Darvish is on, he is a really good pitcher!

        1. Yep. I won’t be surprised if he’s up sooner than later. Hopefully he gets the respect he deserves over there.

  10. Van Slyke sent for Cingrani.

RHP Angel German and INF Oneil Cruz for Watson. German had some issues, but great size and arm strength. I really loved Cruz’ size and power, but was a real projection.

Source: Dodgers send Calhoun, Alexy and Davis to Rangers for Yu Darvish. Deal done. for Darvish. Interesting to note, Darvish goes from 3rd worst framing team to best… and the NL lineups!?!?

    1. I agree. With as many middle infielders as this team has, losing Calhoun not that big a deal. Alexy supposedly has awesome stuff. No report on who went for Cingrani.

  11. Now that is helping Bellinger out. Poor kid’s had to do it all by himself. About time FAZ decided to uphold his end of the deal.

      1. This is the type of move I’ve been waiting for. The big fish to the best team in baseball. All in. I like it.

Now, the rest of you guys in that rotation – stay healthy.

          1. Bluto

I count that as a win, for sure!

And I am excited for Calhoun too, because his bat is definitely major league, ready.

  12. The Cubs are loading up. The Nats are loaded and now the Dodgers are loaded and ready. It’s going to be a heck of a NL playoff BUT the Dodgers will have the advantage by having the best record as the Cubs/Nats will have to get past each other before taking on the Dodgers.
