NLCS Game 2: Yamamoto Goes All The Way, Dodgers Take 2-0 Series Lead

Kike Hernandez NLCS

The Dodgers haven’t had a complete game in the postseason by a starting pitcher since the late great Jose Lima tossed a complete game shutout in game 3 of the 2004 NLDS against the Cardinals. Yoshinobu Yamamoto went all the way in game 2 of the 2025 NLCS against the Brewers and the Dodgers defeated the Brew Crew 5-1, to take a commanding 2-0 series lead.

The Dodgers have been getting some of the most dominating starting pitching we have seen in recent memory. It’s reminiscent of old school baseball, turning back the clock. Blake Snell pitched eight innings of shutout ball in game 1. Snell allowed just one hit and struck out ten. Yamamoto delivered a similar outing, holding the Brewers to just one earned run on three hits across nine innings. He allowed just one walk and struck out seven. No bullpen needed.

If the starting pitchers continue to pitch like this, the Dodgers are going to win another championship. It’s the best solution to the problems with the bullpen. Just have the starting pitchers go nine innings. Yamamoto made 111 pitches. The only mistake he made was allowing a lead-off first inning home run to Jackson Chourio. After that he didn’t allow anything.

The Dodger’s bats got going later in the game against opposing starter Freddy Peralta. They scored twice in the top of the second to take a 2-1 lead. Teoscar Hernandez homered to right, and an Enrique Hernandez single and Andy Pages double put the Dodgers ahead.

In the top of the sixth, Max Muncy smashes a home run over the center field wall. It’s now 3-1 Dodgers. In the following inning, Kike doubles, moves to third on a sacrifice bunt, and scores on a Shohei Ohtani RBI single. 4-1 Dodgers after seven frames. The Dodgers added one more run on an RBI single from Tommy Edman.

That was about it. The crowd was quiet and nervous throughout most of the game. Yamamoto effectively silenced the crowd. The Dodgers were cool, calm and collected. What an incredible performance from Yamamoto. The Dodgers will fly home as the series shifts to Dodger Stadium. Game 3 will be on Thursday afternoon. Either Ohtani or Tyler Glasnow will take the mound. With how strong the Dodger’s starting pitching is, I don’t think the series returns to Milwaukee. The Dodgers need only six more wins. I love complete games!
