Some Random Storylines Around Dodger Land

The Dodgers are no strangers to setting records throughout their rich history. Shohei Ohtani can now add his name to the list of Dodgers who have their name placed in the record books. As of this writing, Ohtani has homered in five straight games, tying the Dodgers’ record for most home runs in consecutive games. Achievements have been reached by former Dodgers such as Joc Pederson, Matt Kemp, Shawn Green, Roy Campanella, Adrian Gonzalez, and current Dodger Max Muncy. That is a good company to share a record with. The story will continue Friday as the Dodgers visit Fenway Park and the iconic Green Monster. Could Ohtani make it six in a row Friday night? The way he is swinging the bat right now makes it seem possible, and he may become the Dodgers’ record holder and be on pace to catch the MLB Leaders who have achieved the feat eight games in a row.

Walk-off magic engulfed Dodger Stadium on Wednesday afternoon when the Dodgers and Freddie Freeman walked off the Twins in the bottom of the ninth. This team just does not quit, whether things are going good or not. They have taken us on a wild ride up until this point and currently sit 4.5 games up on the San Diego Padres in the NL West. The Dodgers are currently tied with multiple teams for the best record in baseball, with 60 wins, and are trailing the red-hot Milwaukee Brewers, who have 61 wins on the season. Winning the West is the priority for the boys in blue. Achieve that feat and reach October, playing some postseason baseball; it never gets old. Truth be told, everyone knows that the goal is not another NL West division title but to go back-to-back in the World Series victory department. Playoff time is always a crap shoot, but the odds are good for the Dodgers to become the first team to go back-to-back since the Yankees pulled off the feat.

Speaking of Freddie Freeman, if you caught the All-Star game, he rightfully received a standing ovation multiple times from the Braves faithful who remember all the memories he provided while a member of the Braves. Dodger fans certainly know all the memories he has provided in Los Angeles in his time here. Baseball is a special game, and when its players are celebrated at the Midsummer Classic, it is always a special occasion. The National League pulling out the win for Dave Roberts certainly had Dodger fans excited. A pretty important road trip is on tap for the Dodgers, as they will head to Boston and then to Cincinnati, with a chance to win both series and increase their division lead. A fun fact is that this team has not even come close to reaching its full potential, and when it does, it will make for a thrilling end to the regular season. What the team does during the trade deadline will be interesting, indeed, and that is only a week away. The front office certainly has its work cut out for it to try and make this team even better, and it’s a challenge that Friedman and company should be up for. Trying to balance your current team with your future is always a fine line that executives have to navigate, and none do it better than those in the front office.

Growing up and living in Oklahoma I fell in love with the game of baseball from an early age from playing T ball through High School. I have always had an admiration for the Boys in Blue with how the Dodger Way is the right way to play the game. Tommy Lasorda is my favorite manager of all time and my all-time favorite players are Jackie Robinson, Pee Wee Reese, Sandy Koufax, Pedro Guerrero, Mike Piazza and Clayton Kershaw. I am enamored with Dodgers history from the Brooklyn days when they were Dem Bums to the days of Fernandomania to Mannywood and beyond. Vin Scully will always be the best announcer the game has ever seen and it will always be time for Dodger baseball. My cousin Zach Chase and uncle John Chase for being a Dodger encyclopedia and sharing their knowledge with me. I will bring my perspective and love for the team to readers and I will most likely have spelling errors from time to time but I promise ill do my best on it. I want to bring you a unique perspective on your favorite team and also throw some humor along the way. I love to talk about baseball with anybody who will listen and I look forward to the Dodgers going back-to-back in their quest for another World Series Championship. Dodger Blue through and through.
