Yes We can certainly blame Canada for this one. Less than 24 hours after the Dodgers won one of the most exciting World Series games in MLB history, they laid an egg, dropping game 4 of the World Series to the Blue Jays 6-2 on Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium. Toronto ties the series and the loss for the Dodgers confirms that they will have to fly back to Canada for a game 6 on Friday night. You would have figured that fatigue was a real factor here, but the Blue Jays didn’t look tired at all. As a matter of fact it was just the opposite. They looked energized, as they defeated Shohei Ohtani, knocking him out of the game in the top of the seventh.
Ohtani pitched 6 innings plus, allowing four earned runs on six hits and striking out six. The Dodgers had kept superstar Vladimir Guerrero Jr. quiet so far throughout this series, but not during game 4. His two-run home run in the top of the third put the Blue Jays ahead for good, 2-1.
Ohtani ran out of gas in the top of the seventh, with the Dodgers still down 2-1. Daulton Varsho led off with a single and advanced to third on a double from Ernie Clement. That chased Ohtani from the game, and the Dodgers brought in Anthony Banda for a lefty on lefty matchup with Andres Gimenez. I love Dave Roberts, but these subsequent moves were questionable and led to a four-run seventh inning for Toronto. With the count 3-2 on Gimenez, he slaps a base to right to score Varsho and the score was 3-1. It was a good piece of hitting with RISP, something that has been difficult for the Dodgers lately.

Things didn’t get any better for the Dodgers. In that same frame, Kiner-Falefa’s liner to third, did not result in a double play as Gimenez slid back into the first base bag just in time. With only one out, pinch-hitter Ty France’s grounder scored another run to make it 4-1. The Dodgers intentionally walked Guerrero to have Blake Treinen face Bo Bichette. Again, I didn’t understand the move as the well has run dry with Treinen. Consecutive singles from Bichette and Addison Barger put the score out of reach 6-1.
Why was the score out of reach? Probably because the Dodgers are just not hitting. They are having a difficult time with runners in scoring position. Opposing starter Shane Bieber pitched a solid game, allowing just one earned run on four hits across 5.1 innings. The Dodgers scored one run in the bottom of the second on a Max Muncy walk, Tommy Edman single into center, and an Enrique Hernandez sacrifice fly.
The Dodgers only real look at the game came in the bottom of the sixth when Freddie Freeman and Teoscar Hernandez singled. But Smith lined out, Mason Fluharty induced a fly out to Muncy and then struck out Edman.
The Dodgers did mount a rally in garbage time in the bottom of the ninth. With Louis Varland pitching, Teo walked, and Muncy doubled him to third. Edman’s ground out scored Teo to cut the lead to 6-2. The run was meaningless as Kike struck out and Alex Call lined out to left to end the game. Pivotal Game 5 of the World Series will be the final game at Dodger Stadium in 2025, no matter the outcome. The pitching matchup will be a repeat of game 1. Rookie Trey Yesavage will take the mound for Toronto, and the Dodgers will give the ball to Blake Snell. If you have any plans for tomorrow night, please cancel them and get to Dodger Stadium. The Dodgers need you Los Angeles.
