Hyun-Jin Ryu Faced Batters and Dodgers Made Another Trade

It looks like we can all breathe again (for the time being, at least). Today Hyun-Jin Ryu took to the mound and faced off against live batters for the first time in 2017.

Ryu threw 25 pitches to four minor leaguers, and struck out the first three. Batter number four rapped out a sharp single. There was no word on pitch velocity, but I’ll take today’s events as a positive step forward in Ryu’s journey to reclaiming a spot in the Dodgers’ starting rotation. Ryu himself reported that he felt good with his performance.

“I definitely want to be in the starting rotation from Day 1, and that’s what I’m planning to do,” Ryu said. “From the looks of it, I have a lot of confidence I can make it.” – Hyun-Jin Ryu

Other Spring Training notes:

Andrew Toles reported to camp a day early.

Scott Kazmir also threw to live batters today. According to Ken Gurnick of MLB.com, Kazmir showed no lingering signs of the rib injury that ended Kazmir’s 2016 season prematurely. Good news for all.

Franklin Gutierrez arrived to camp this morning amid noise the Dodgers will have to make a move to clear up space for him on the roster. Late afternoon brought news the Dodgers did just that. They traded LHP Vidal Nuno to Baltimore for minor league RHP Ryan Moseley. A bunk is now open for Gutierrez.

  1. Wow there is two spring games this weekend, where is everyone?

John Valentine was on the MLB Now show today, and he didn’t have much good to say, about Puig.

They asked him where he saw Puig down the road.

And they also asked him, do you think he will be better, or just a flash in the pan.

    And He said the later.

    1. Hey, MJ, are you sure this is an actual blog? If so, they better start recruiting. But don’t anyone even think of making a non-baseball post….

      1. Who is John Valentine?

We got a non baseball post from catbox Wonder. He tried to analyze my dream, like he knows something about the subject. He certainly doesn’t have a handle on humor.

I think a lot of guys migrated to Felonious Mark’s site. I hear they got rules over there. Should pick up here once something actually happens on the field.

        1. I know John Galt but never heard of John Valentine. Humor is outlawed in RepublicanLand. They take themselves so damn seriously…

          1. But they don’t value facts all that much.

            I think MJ meant Valentin.

Puig actually projects very well this year. Of course they will platoon him, 400 ab’s, .800 OPS. Maybe 20 homers, 60 ribbies.
